One spot left. After that, waitlist.

EDIT: Spalding has dopped their two, and TJ has added a third, so there are actually now two spots remaining.

Sorry to hear that.

So, St. Stephen's/St. Agnes has registered two teams, and Howard one, so I believe the field is now full.

I finally talked to Fr. Meehan today about game format.

Despite initial indications that it would be run on the NSC format, this tournament is just going to be regular 15, 10, -5, with no bouncebacks on bonuses. After discussing the staff situation, we realized that we didn't want to put too much extra strain on our relatively inexperienced crew.

I'm sorry if this really disappoints anyone, but in the interest of not making this tournament take forever, this is what we have decided to do.

Could you throw a 2nd team from Wilson SHS on the wait list. My kids are not so good at telling me things like "I'd love to go to a tournament near my school".

Thanks.

Hopefully it won't be as big a problem since people won't need to drive to lunch. According to the Gonzaga website, they follow MCPS decisions and MCPS is often more reluctant to close schools than FCPS.

Fr. Meehan and I have a meeting planned for Wednesday, and we will discuss this then. At this time, I don't really know what Gonzaga's weather policies are like, so I don't feel qualified to comment.

why god why

Also, it's looking like we could have a person or two extra for a SCAB team; just in case that 'person or two' becomes 'three or four extra people', would you mind adding 'GDS D' to the waiting list?

EDIT: This won't happen.

So, in my meeting with Fr. Meehan tomorrow, what alternate dates would people like to have me propose in case we get snowed out? The 20th is out because of It's Ac, and the 27th is Prison Bowl. March 6th and 13th are also taken by RM and GDS, respectively. We may have to look into doing this on a Sunday.

The 21st? It could be a NAREN-ZIGZAG double bill.

I think we painfully realized that virtually every Saturday is flawed while discussing rescheduling for the TJ tournament. Most Sundays are still open though, I think. Are you guys adverse to hosting the tournament on a Sunday?

Edit: If Saturday, February 13th is taken, how about Sunday, February 14th?

I don't know. I'm certainly up for it, but it's hard for me to make decisions when I don't know about the facilities I have to work with. I'm definitely going to bring up the idea.

What's going on March 27th?

Sundays are an option, as well, but i don't know if we (personally) can do two tournaments in two days, considering the driving that'll take us.

I can tell you right now that we will have issues if February 20th and 21st eaten up by tournaments, since 3/4 of our A team will need that Sunday to devote to preparing for Mock Trial, since the competition will at that point be less than a week away.

All the date claim thread indicates is VA NAQT states. Even though it's a conflict, it's one we might be willing to just accept.

The 13th is NAIMUN, the Model UN conference, which eats up a big chunk of our team (and I assume a few other teams). I'd say try for a Sunday or push it way way back.

I have met with Fr. Meehan, and here's the deal:

Tomorrow afternoon, Fr. Meehan will check the forecasts. In the very likely case that there is still a 90% chance of 12-20 inches of snow on Friday and Saturday, he will email all the teams at that point to postpone the tournament. This will give coaches all day Friday to make sure their kids know what's happening.

If the forecast miraculously clears up by then, we will plan to run the tournament as scheduled and hope random things don't happen.

So, about postponement:

Pending the approval of Gonzaga's facilities manager, the five following dates are possibilities. Almost everything else until May has been ruled out because of one thing or another.

Sunday, February 21 - NAREN at TJ is the day before.
Sunday, March 7 - PAQT at RM is the day before.
Saturday, March 20 - This is a known conflict with Blue Hen, but we might just have to take that hit.
Sunday, March 21 - Blue Hen is the day before.
Sunday, March 28 - VA NAQT States is the day before.

Which of these is the least bad for people? The email Fr. Meehan will (in all likelihood) send out will ask teams to chose which one of the four they would like, and then we'll make the decision.

EDIT: Added Feb 21

I personally may have a hard time going on the 21st of March, but i can almost guarantee that i'll have 4 kids who will try to make the trip. Whether i can come is another issue.

The more i read about this storm though, the more that a postponement is basically closer to a 100% certainty.

That's supposed to be his holy day!
Yeah I assume he goes to church because that's what Fathers usually do.

Going to church: noted thing that doesn't take all day and that can be done at flexible times, including the day before.

And yes, Sundays are fine; that's why I've included some on the list.

Since all of the possible dates conflict on the same weekend as another tournament, it seems as though the most likely way for the highest number of teams to go to both tournaments is to have them inside the beltway, as opposed to Richmond and Delaware, etc.

Has the decision been made yet? With fewer than 48 hours to inform teammates of what's going on, it'd be nice to know exactly which rescheduling date you've picked.

We are probably OK with any of the dates except March 20.
