High School Singles Tournament @ Fenton HS (2/27/10)
High School Singles Tournament @ Fenton HS (2/27/10)
Once again, there will be a singles tournament following the NAQT State Qualifier, directed by myself.
Format: bracketed RR, rebracket, playoff RR, ACF Final as necessary. 20 tossups, negs, no powers, sudden death tiebreakers. I will do my best to ensure that everyone gets at least 8-9 games.
Questions: the tossups will come from the NAREN set. See that thread before emailing me about the questions, please.
Fees:
$30 for the first student from a school
$20 for the second student from the same school
$10 for the third and any subsequent students
-$5 for working buzzer systems (only needs two lights, but please bring extra parts just in case)
-$10 for competent moderators that are used
Depending on the level of interest, I may cap the field in order to ensure that a reasonable format can be used.
Note: this year, all profits from this tournament will be donated to the Matt's Buzzers fund.
If you have any other questions, feel free to email me at dtaylor4 at illinois dot edu, or post in this thread.
If I do not receive an email by midnight of Thursday, February 25th, you will not play. Period. If you email me, I will respond with confirmation. If you emailed me, but did not receive confirmation within 24 hours, try again. If still no go, post here.

I'm playing this for sure, and maybe 1 other person from Stevenson will play as well.

I will also be playing, and I'm sure at least 1 other person from Loyola will be as well. Also, you can pretty much chalk us down for a buzzer system as Mr. Riley has us take them home and there's a chance he might even stay to be our "competent moderator".

Can I play this if Latin doesn't play NAQT?

Yes. Just be wary that I can't exactly peg down the start time.jdeliverer wrote:Can I play this if Latin doesn't play NAQT?

I'll be happy to moderate if needed, and we might possibly have 3-4 people in addition to Nolan and Marcel.

Once you know who from your school is coming, please email me a list, so I can track it better.
I'll do my best to balance the brackets, but can't make any promises.

Bumping this. The field is filling out nicely for NAQT State, so hopefully some people are interested in some more good quizbowl.
Re: High School Singles Tournament @ Fenton HS (2/27/10)
Another add to the field.
Also, to clarify: when I said email me, I meant email me. If I don't get an email, you (or your players, as the case may be) are not in.

There will very likely be other Latin students coming to this - I'll update you later this week when I have a better idea of how many.

Field updated.
As a heads-up: I will be out of town for the next 24-ish hours, and I do not know whether I will be able to access my email.
EDIT: I have not decided on a firm cap yet.

Re: High School Singles Tournament @ Fenton HS (2/27/10)
Right now, I have three spots open. If the three Latin people are confirmed by email, a waitlist will start.
I will have 13 packets at my disposal. The format will likely be 5 brackets of 6, then 6 brackets of 5. Ties will be played off, and the final will be ACF format (two games up clears, one game up means advantaged final, two-way tie means one game). Prelim records will NOT carry over.
There will be book prizes for the people in the top bracket, and for each of the winners in the other brackets. There will also be a neg prize.
Make checks payable to Sheryl Cvijanovich, since I will be forwarding them on to her for deposit into the Matt's Buzzers fund.

The field is CLOSED. If you want in on a waitlist, email me, and I'll let you know where you are. I will also publish the waitlist here.
Re: High School Singles Tournament @ Fenton HS (2/27/10)
Also, I need some more readers and buzzers. If you will be in the area and can help in either regard, email me and let me know.
Re: High School Singles Tournament @ Fenton HS (2/27/10)
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand two spots open up. Come on people, it's for a good cause.
EDIT: This is now one.

We are back down to 27.
If you are able to read for this, or have not indicated the number of buzzers you're providing, email me post-haste.

Re: High School Singles Tournament @ Fenton HS (2/27/10)
The field is closed, barring any last-minute shenanigans.
With 28, the prelims will be 4 brackets of 7, followed by 7 brackets of 4.
Ties within prelim brackets will be played off. Finals will be ACF. Books will be awarded to everyone in the top bracket, and the winners of each other bracket.

Re: High School Singles Tournament @ Fenton HS (2/27/10)
For some reason, I miscounted, and am at 27.
I would really like to get to 28. If it stays at 27, then one bracket will have two byes.
If you want in, email me ASAP. First come, first serve.

This tournament happened. Andrew Deveau cleared the field, going 3-0 in the playoffs/
A more thorough post will come fairly soon, after my brain recovers.

If anyone can somehow get me the stats for the R10 game between Stephen Skapek and Greg Ramel, the stats will be complete.

70-60 Steven. Not sure about their statlines though. This is all Ben Carbery knew.dtaylor4 wrote:If anyone can somehow get me the stats for the R10 game between Stephen Skapek and Greg Ramel, the stats will be complete.
