UCLA Mirror of New Trier HS (SATURDAY January 9th, 2010)

Post by Golran »

UCLA will be hosting a mirror of New Trier High School on January 9th, 2010. Fees etc to be announced later, but expect them to be slightly less that TWAIN was. I should have a full announcement up by the weekend.

UCLA Mirror of New Trier HS (SUNDAY January 17th, 2010)

Post by Golran »

I should have the full announcement up tomorrow, we are currently debating the base fees (Most likely in the 60-80 range, not sure where within that range). We can probably expect a field of around 20 teams.

ELIGIBILITY: All high school teams are eligible.

FORMAT: Twenty tossup-bonus cycles, with negs but no powers from the New Trier High School set

PRICING STRUCTURE:
Team Discounts
Base fee = $60 per team

-$10 for a moderator or staff member (The TD has the right to accept or reject the moderator and also reserves the right to withdraw the discount retroactive to payment.)
Minimum fee (per team average) = $30

The field will be capped at 12 teams unless there is excessive demand complimented by excessive resources.

WARNING! If you cannot have payment by tournament date, please contact the TD with at least 24 hours notice. If you arrive without warning of delinquent payment to tournament, we will assess a $50 penalty to be paid immediately in addition to the regular payment, which must be received by us within ten business days.

Checks should be made out to "College Bowl Club of UCLA". Please do NOT change this wording. For reasons of financial security, if possible, please bring the check to the tournament rather than mailing it in advance.

REGISTRATION:
The TD for this tournament is Ian Drayer. The current registration deadline is Thursday, January 7th at 5 PM.

If you are planning to come, please e-mail Golran@ucla(dot)edu with:
1) Your school's name

We're going with Sunday the 17th, and the field will be limited to 12 teams for now, unless there is extreme demand.

OK, I just reserved 6 rooms for January 9th, and I'm going to post this to the socalhsquizbowl list serv. I also reduced the entry fee by another $5. We also found another one of our buzzers, so buzzers likely will not be an issue.

Can someone post here letting me know that the announcement was sent out properly? Thanks!

Yeah, I had messed up with dates and finally straightened stuff out to avoid conflicts (mainly ACF winter). The plan was to have it on the 17th if Winter was in Southern California, but being at Stanford will prevent us from staffing with some sleep the night before. The 23rd is an SAT date I believe, so that left the 9th open. The e-mail I posted to the list should have said the 9th.

Bumping to let you know the field is starting to fill up, and top finishers will qualify for the PACE-NSC. At this point we only have 5 spots still available, though we will consider expanding the field if demand is accompanied by supply.

RB is listed as "interested" in the field post... We are definitely more than just "interested," as I have already posted. We'll bring (probably) two teams.

EDIT: We'll bring a buzzer set (maybe 2) as well.

Lucas, please send me an e-mail at Golran -at- ucla -dot- edu with number of teams buzzers, etc.

Also, we are almost at our field cap, with one more slot available. Further teams will be put on a waitlist, and if we are able to find enough readers and buzzers we will expand the field to accommodate additional teams.

We were able to reserve 3 more rooms so the field cap has been pushed up to 18 teams, and we plan to run a nearly identical format to TWAIN due to the style of room reservations.

So I was looking through last year's NTV set, and I couldn't help but wonder...Is this set going to have those ridiculous vocabulary questions?

No. There was I believe a total of 4/4 vocabulary in last year's NTV set, and that is gone from this year's set. There also was some Interdisciplinary stuff, which is now contained in about two bonuses in the entire set. The distribution is here. I guarantee that you will like this year's set better than last year's.

It now looks like there might be another mirror, so any question discussion beyond people saying they liked or disliked the questions should take place at this Facebook link rather than on this board.

Based on the morning stats, Stephen can play this game.
