It should probably be clarified — unless it has changed from editions I, II, and III — that this is a frosh/soph tournament only.

Yes, still frosh/soph....and to further clarify, frosh/soph, not "jv".

Field has been updated and is tentatively closed. I might expand to 24 teams pending demand, etc. Registration will then close on December 15, and then requests for B teams will be honored in the order in which they were received.

Out of curiosity, has our B-team request been received, and if so, how high is it in priority? I'm really hoping for the opportunity to expose this year's freshman to a higher standard of quiz bowl.

Unfortunately, it doesn't appear likely.

I am giving preference to single teams up until Dec 15. After that, I will fill slots with B teams up to a maximum of 24 teams but there are about eight or nine teams ahead of you. I'll keep you posted if anything changes.

Ben, I was mistaken--if I do expand and allow second teams, Carbondale is 4th in line for a B team.

Well, if you really want to expose them to good quiz bowl, you should sincerely consider letting them go over you, as they would benefit MUCH MUCH more from this than yourself.

Hmm... I'll take this into consideration. We're already missing a sophomore for this tournament, but a lot of our freshman are having problems with commitment and many of them still prefer one-liners. I remember how great it was for me to see what good quizbowl looked like when I was a freshman, I think it would be good for them too. I have a speech tournament that day anyway, this would make my schedule less complicated. I'll have to think about this one.

Stevenson won, with Auburn runner-up. I'll let someone post the rest of the results, since I don't remember all of them.

I thought the questions were great for this level - most questions were gettable by the end while still working in enough of the varsity-level canon to keep it academic. Moderators did a great job overall and (aside from the fire drill) things went very smoothly.

Stevenson A won with a 5-0 record. There was no advantaged final, rather there was a 5-way circle of death between Auburn A, Barrington A, Wheaton Warrenville South A, Loyola A, and Oak Park-River Forest, as the all finished the championship bracket with 2-3 records. Based on total points per game in the playoffs, Auburn A was declared the 2nd place finisher, Barrington A the 3rd place team, and Wheaton Warrenville South A the 4th place team. Outside of Stevenson, it was an incredibly balanced championship pool, IMO. Champaign Centennial, the only team to defeat Stevenson A today, swept the consolation pool to finish the day with a 9-1 overall record, yet they missed the cut for the championship round due to PPB. I'll let Laird give his explanation of how that could have happened...

Could you group the morning stats in the morning brackets? Right now the morning stats have teams grouped into their playoff brackets.

That's an awfully strange scenario: Stevenson gets beat by about 300 then sweeps the rest of the field...

Yeah, Jonah hi-jacked my file so he doesn't have that. Prelim results with everybody in their right brackets can be found here

EDIT: After some things (such as repeat games) have been fixed, stats can be found in the following places:

Thanks to everyone today for a great tournament, minus the impromptu fire drill and the delayed lunch [who would ever think a morning would finish early?]. A special thanks to my statskeeper, Nolan Winkler, and moderators Will Abraham, Dan Donohue, Jonah Greenthal, Nathan Hollinsaid, Sam Krc [that's not a typo], Christian Kreb, Matt Laird, Mike Laudermith, Jeff Price, Donal [that's not a typo, either] Terrell, Mike Verity, and Marcel Youkhna. Comments, compliments, and complaints all welcome, and yes, please do not discuss specific questions ANYWHERE until cleared to do so by NAQT.

Well, we're a first year team and our team did amazingly well today. Our team was very happy with the way the tournament was run, the moderating, and they especially liked the lunch. While the afternoon bracketing didn't advantage us, the players feel pretty good about their performance today. Chris is a sophomore and played in middle school. We'll have to come to more tournaments up north.

Champaign Centennial hosted tournaments on 2009-2010 Illinois Sets A and B this past December. Their only other tournament in NAQT's database was Kickoff, where they lost to Quincy High, Bloomington, Springfield A, and Chatham Glenwood and beat Lincoln A. They managed 177ppg. No bonus stats or individual stats available.

They beat Bettendorf in the final of a tournament that looks like it was probably IHSA format here.

This was their league tournament (it was just one, but they needed packets from both sets), and those original sets had been modified somewhat by me (for varsity) and a great deal by Tom Egan (for the frosh/soph).
