Man I really really wish there were some sort of database where hosts could list their tournaments, and enter the location, and teams could just search by area.

If I may make the following modest proposal:

I think it would be a good idea if you wrote out all the weekends in 09-10, with those that have no claims yet just empty. This would make it easier for people to see what dates are still open and how tournaments are arranged relative to each other. For example:

10/10/09 SAT Date
10/17/09 ___
10/24/09 ___
10/31/09 Fall Tournament II @ VCU
11/07/09 SAT Date
11/14/09 EQuInE III @ Auburn HS (RIner, VA)
11/21/09 ___

And so on.

EDIT: In light of its suggestion being implemented, this post is now somewhat obsolete.

According to this thread, VCU Season Finale is scheduled for 4/10, not 4/17: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=7318

EDIT: Or not, see Matt Weiner's comment below.

TJ is tentatively scheduling its fall tournament for 10/17/09 and the house-written tournament for 1/30/10. We may also hold a house-written novice tournament on 4/17/09 although we have yet to finalize the logistics for this tournament or even decide if it's actual going to happen.

GDS has tentatively scheduled the 2009-10 Ben Cooper Memorial Tournament for February 6th, 2010. The current plan is for it to be house-written and power-marked. We are also considering running a vendor-questions tournament early in the year.

I would suggest you contact Fr. Meehan in the near future, as this is the date he was thinking about for Gonzaga's tournament next year.

I've changed it a few times and now I've just marked it as unknown. Various other things are being determined that will affect what the best April date for a tournament is.

Upon contacting Fr. Meehan, this has turned out to be true despite the lack of announcement. Since February 6th should be claimed by that tournament soon, we're withdrawing from that date and looking into other Spring 2010 options for the running of our tournament. March 6th is a likely, but tentative, option.

I'll go ahead and announce that Gonzaga and St. Anselm's will be combining resources to co-host a tournament next year on February 6th, 2010 at Gonzaga. Odds are high that this will be a vendor-bought set, though which vendor is still to be determined. Many thanks to GDS for allowing us to have this date even though we had not yet claimed it.

It might help teams if they knew what format this would be in (speed or pyramidal 20/20, etc.)

We're abdicating our claim to 2/20 since this is now when ACF Regionals is. We will either host that tournament on Sunday the 21st or on a different weekend.

The aforementioned novice tournament that TJ would like to host is looking more and more likely to be restricted to middle schoolers and underclassmen, although it's too early to say anything for sure yet.

Maryland's fall high school tournament will run sometime in September, probably on the 26th at the moment. It is likely to be an HSAPQ event again rather than one of our various unfortunate incarnations of the It's Academic format, but hey, if you're feeling some nostalgia for questions that ask "where are you right now," let me know.

Awesome, Chris. Last year's event was great and even though we brought at least 2 teams from CR that were not ready at all for that sort of competition, we'll try to bring more than one if we can.

9/26 and 10/10 are the two dates Gov put on our Fall Novice bid as possible...if UMD needs 9/26 it makes more sense for us to take the SAT date.

Maggie Walker will be hosting a mirror of the Fall Novice Tournament on 10/10, since our target audience is probably not taking the SAT that day. I should be posting an announcement sometime tomorrow when I have some time; I just wanted to get this date claimed.

Auburn High School probably will not be hosting the EQuInE III since I will begin teaching at Blacksburg HS this fall. So unless the yet to be determined sponsor of the Scholastic Bowl team at AHS wants to host a tournament, I would say that it is likely that the EQuInE will no longer be on the schedule in SW VA.

Well, I'm sorry to hear that. The sponsor for the Blacksburg team is Karen Costen or has that changed? Although Blacksburg has never hosted a tournament before, it would be nice if they did. Virginia Tech hosted a tournament one year but hasn't done one since. Not sure why. Anyhoo, who's the new sponsor at Auburn then?

Also, Cave Spring is putting in a tentative claim for November 21st for the CSI IV. We're moving it up as to not conflict with other tournaments in December. The tournament will be house written and official announcement will be made in the forums in a few days when I can confirm with our building supervisor.

We're also thinking about a spring tournament with out of house questions. Not sure who will be the vendor as we'll be shopping around. More details on that later.

We're now doing our fall tournament at VCU on November 7. If the SAT really is an issue for a lot of people, we can move it to Sunday, November 8. We will likely use an HSAPQ set for this tournament.

The winter tournament on December 5 is going to happen as well. We will likely use an NAQT set.

I'll have some info about where our spring tournaments are ultimately landing, pretty soon.

OK, we're now mirroring Harvard Fall on 11/7 due to high demand for HSAPQ in the region, and have been assigned IS-90 for 12/5. I'll put up full announcements for these two events soon.

1/23 and 4/3 are our likely dates for spring HSAPQ tournaments.

We're also looking to do some sort of Mid-Atlantic regional championship on NAQT SCT questions on May 1 or 2 (depending on whether the May 1 SAT matters for anyone).

I believe UVa is bidding to host NAQT states on March 27.

Maryland Fall is happening, and it is in fact happening on the 26th. I'll try to get an announcement up shortly.

DC Metro Comparisons and Discussion
This forum is for discussion of high school quiz bowl in the Washington, D.C. metro area, including D.C., Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.
I just assumed that because Delaware was included in the DC Metro comparisons, that it would be acceptable for us to place a date claim in this thread, but I see we have yet to be placed on the list of dates taken. Was I wrong in my assumption?

My apologies to the Ceasar Rodney folks; I didn't realize that Delaware was part of the DC Metro Board. I have added your claim to the list above. Have I missed any other Delaware tourneys? Does Charter have one announced.

Charter runs a couple tournaments a year (usually December and January-ish), and Mr. Tressler co-runs a tournament with the University of Delaware in Newark as well (usually March). None of those have official dates yet though. I can let you know when they do.

And, yeah, that's fine. Actually Trey came to me first about it and i was like "really?" but i figured they have to put us in some region, so it might as well be, like, the strongest one in the country. :) No troubles.

Yeah Feldman did that all the time. You need to somehow make it apparent that it's spelled that way. Maybe by changing Rodney to Augustus.

Whitman is looking at running a tournament either the 14th or the 21st of November. If Blake's tournament happens, we will of course aim for the 21st.
