Andrew, have you found a partner yet? I'm not sure how much I could contribute but I wouldn't mind playing and learning.

Hey, of any of the free agents mentioned in the last post want a teammate and have not already decided to pair with each other, or if anyone else really wants to play this and have need of an aged rusted hulk of a teammate, I'm available. Otherwise, I can moderate if needed, since the rest of my CO team is playing at this.

I'll read for this if it's on Saturday. The only mention of a day upthread was from Rom, and he's probably right, so count me in.

Just to check, CO schedule looks like this?

Saturday:
Day - CO Proper
Night - CO Lit

Sunday:
Day - Trash
Night - Social Science

Is there anything I'm missing that I could be involved in?

I suppose this post is going to have two functions. As I'm sure will disappoint, but probably not surprise, that many people, this tournament is not done and has quite a ways yet to go. It has a shot at getting done in the next two days if a couple people who are not intending to play get in touch with Matt, get access to the Google Docs, and inject a bunch of questions. I don't like to be the one to do this (particularly not as someone who's not the TD), but I've been urging this for a couple weeks, it absolutely won't get done otherwise (especially since most of the other writers, I assume, are playing CO all Saturday), and I don't want to see my work go to waste.

That is, Function 1 is a call for help in finishing this. Function 2 is a heads-up for all those 21 teams as to what may end up happening.

My desire to play in this tournament wasn't all that high so I guess I can contribute a handful of questions tonight. Add [email protected] to the docs.

okay, emailed Matt, no response. kathryn.e.peters at gmail can be added also - I'll write what I can, but even better, I can randomize and packet-sort on Saturday if need be (not being at CO), which can free the other writers to be editing up until the very last moment.

I'm going to think positive and hope that this tournament will be finished by Saturday night, but, in case it's not completely done, I'd like to request that someone with the packets allow those of us who will not be able to make it to some fall tournament where it might get played in full to play them informally, as the small group did last year with the portions of the SS/philosophy that were finished. I'm already sad that I'll miss the SS/philosophy, as I won't be able to make any trips in fall, and I'd really like to play some lit questions even if it's not a formal competition. Good luck to those of you grinding it out!

It will be mirrored at Berkeley this weekend. (I don't know of any other mirrors.) After the mirrors are done, I presume it will be up on the archive like last year's.

I'd like to thank Dave for making sure this stayed on track while I was incommunicado on the road today and generally being a shining light of responsibility compared to me and the rest of the writing team. There has been a heartwarming flood of offers for help, and it's assured that we will have at least the 9 rounds needed to run a reasonable event in Chicago. The tournament is on and I hope people enjoy it.

This happened. Jonathan Magin & Joe Hansen emerged victorious, with Tommy Casalaspi & Guy Tabachnick finishing second. Jerry Vinokurov & Ted Gioia were third and Seth Teitler & Selene Koo fourth.

Many people deserve praise for making this tournament happen, and I'll post more extensively in the coming week, but first and foremost Dave Letzler wrote an extensive amount of excellent questions and kept everyone else's eye on the ball, and Katy Peters did great work on compiling and formatting packets under a severely compressed timeframe, so I'd like to thank those two folks right now.

All the staffers who remained for hours 14 through 17 of today's CO leg to run this event were great. Chris Carter kept stats and will be posting them shortly.

Minor error: Donald's and my stats are switched for at least the first three rounds - the 0-6-0 against Sarah/Carsten is mine, but it was Donald, not me, that was 1-2-3 through three games.

I assume there's no way to do anything about it in SQBS, but Ahmad and I only got to play five games since we were inadvertently read Round 7 during Round 6, so that game being averaged in as a zero certainly distorts our team averages.

Greg, I will fix that once I get some sleep, thanks for letting me know. Chris, I will look into it, but you are probably right about it being something SQBS "just does".

If anybody finds any more stats issues, send me an email ([email protected]) and I can take care of it off the forums.
