Questions are written in-house, increasingly by the students (year one was primarily by adults). Our format is a three-part match: lightning round (set topics), themed worksheets, and TU/Bonus. The team members will write and edit these.

Is the lightning round portion done like tossups where either team can buzz in, or are they directed to a team for answering, like a verbal worksheet?ProsperoSMS wrote:Questions are written in-house, increasingly by the students (year one was primarily by adults). Nice field. This should be a great tournament. We'll bone up on our Episcopal trivia.

You have two columns of 10s--are you recording powers (as they're marked) separately but also counting them as ten points? If so, that's pretty cool.

Re: Belles' Bowl (2/20/10) at Saint Mary's School (Raleigh, NC)
There are three components to this competition:Crazy Andy Watkins wrote:You have two columns of 10s--are you recording powers (as they're marked) separately but also counting them as ten points? If so, that's pretty cool.
A 10 question tossup round, no bonuses, each 10 points each (lightning round)
A 150 point worksheet
A 10 question pyramidal tossup round, with 30 point bonuses and bounceback on bonuses. (pyramidal round)
The first column represents lightning round tossups, and the second column of 10 is pyramidal tossups. The LtngRnd or lightning round in the stat sheet is the worksheet. I usually run a script against the results to change the output to clear these issues up, but I haven't had time to do that yet today (since the first round of playoffs is running now).

Another Raleigh Charter tournament that Peter couldn't make it to? A shame. They still played well without him, again.

Yes, Raleigh Charter played very well, and when you consider the group they had on their A squad yesterday were 3 juniors and a sophomoe, they continue to excel. Congrats to both RC and Providence Day on excellent days.
Thanks to all for coming out. We had a late start (and a late restart from lunch), but I hope that everything worked out for all.

That 6.67 ppb in the final round is a little bothersome though. Time to do some coaching, I suppose!Carangoides ciliarius wrote:Another Raleigh Charter tournament that Peter couldn't make it to? A shame. They still played well without him, again.

That 6.67 P/B also did something else:rchschem wrote:That 6.67 ppb in the final round is a little bothersome though. Time to do some coaching, I suppose!Carangoides ciliarius wrote:Another Raleigh Charter tournament that Peter couldn't make it to? A shame. They still played well without him, again.

Code: Select all

Raleigh Charter A L 240 260 5 6 20 12.00 80 6 40 6.67 6 10 1.67
Providence Day A W 260 240 2 3 20 13.00 120 3 30 10.00 14 60 4.29
10L are first part tossups without bonuses (10).
10P are third part tossups with 30 point bonuses with bounceback (10).
WS is a 15 question, 10 point per question worksheet.
BBHrd is a bounceback heard; I credit a bounceback heard for each bonus part that is not gotten correct by the team hearing the bonus (so a perfect P/BB is 10).
On the tossups, Raleigh Charter got 11 of the 20 tossups, including 6 that yielded bonuses (as opposed to 5 and 3 respectively for Providence Day). But by converting on only 4 parts of 18 bonus parts, Providence Day got to hear 14 bounceback parts, and stole 6 of them, as opposed to Raleigh Charter only hearing 6 bouncebacks parts and stealing 1.
