Prelim. Announcement: Sun 'n Fun X July 11, 2009

Post by SnookerUSF »

Hello,

Sun 'n Fun X will be Nationals difficulty house-written tournament. Maryland has tentatively agreed to mirror it again, and I would be open to other mirrors in the midwest and west coast.

The distribution will approximate an mACF distribution with a no doubt already anticipated slight lean towards philosophy and the social sciences. I will attempt to minimize the French postmodernist feminist philosophy, but I can't make these kind of promises.

If there are some sciency types out there that would be willing to help edit and/or write some questions, I will not turn you down and I can be e-mailed at aragab at mail dot usf dot edu.

I look forward to writing this tournament, and for you all in the community to enjoy.

Regards,
Ahmad Ragab, itinerant moderator at the New School for Social Research

There are flights into the DC area for considerably less than "anything," so come on down.

If I am not bound to work this weekend (I probably am not) I will play. Would appreciate teammates.

EDIT: at UMD, I'd think.

Damn you, Chris Ray, you've called my bluff!

In seriousness, I might, depending how my flight budget works out for this summer.

I would prefer to play a Chicago-area mirror (such as at Northwestern), but if this is not possible I should be able to make it to the DC area that weekend.

Flights to Tampa are so cheap (i.e., cheaper than driving or flying to Maryland) I'm considering this.

Yeah, I'm definitely playing this (at Maryland). Not sure yet if I'll try to build a team; for now I guess I'm a free agent.

I assume that's what he means. If I'm in the area (a few friends are at Harvard over the summer) I might like the caravan too. Also, I think Guy and I are playing together, so anyone cool who wants to hop on is welcome.

I need someone to teach me how to drive on the highway before this, but no, I am not old enough to rent without surcharges. One of my housemates for the summer, however, has a car. If I beg, cook delicious things, offer hard cash, and sign over my first-born, she may be amenable to lending it to me.

So, I don't think it's going to change the minds of anyone outside the state regarding travel, but due to ridiculous room-reservation rules at USF, Ahmad tells me that he'll be hosting the Florida SnF at Valencia in Orlando. So if you want to get a cheap flight down, we'll be happy to have you. If you don't mind a house full of kids (probably five between ages 4 and 7, due to previous plans), we could probably even put a small number of folks (like three?) up for free.

Probably, Nick.

Probably, Dan (depending on your definition of "right off").

It'll be a few weeks before I'm confirmed interested, because if I can't find a job before then, I might need to be spending my summer weekends looking for/working towards one. Also, while I'm open to giving people rides, my car fits 5 (4 comfortably), so space is limited.

perhaps? I'd look at the weekend cost of car rental + gas + tolls vs. everybody chinatown-ing it first, but if it's the better solution, I certainly don't mind helping out... I also have much experience roadtripping and would prefer not to use anyone else's vehicle for driving lessons... find me a co-pilot and we'd be good to go.
