University of Minnesota Weekend of Quizbowl set mirror, 3/28

Post by theMoMA »

This is a preliminary announcement of the University of Minnesota's mirror of the Weekend of Quizbowl set. We will host just one tournament, on Saturday, using the PACE-formatted question set produced under Trygve Meade of the University of Illinois.

This tournament will take place in Blegen Hall on the U of M West Bank.

The cost will be $70 per team, with a $5 discount available for buzzers, a $10 discount for providing readers, and a $10 out-of-state discount (once per school).

More info will be added shortly. Please send RSVPs to me at [email protected].

Thanks! And I hope to see a bunch of teams there.

Any plans at this time to mirror, however informally, Ike Jose's lit singles as well?

We can probably put something together, if there are enough players.

EP will probably be there with at least 1 team, and at least 2 or 3 people will play the lit tournament if it happens.

South should be there with one team, and at least me and maybe Molly to play Lit.

Andrew -- Would you mind sending Lenius an email about this? I mentioned it to him and he said we could probably go, he just hadn't heard about it yet. Thanks.

Last year there was a moratorium on discussion about WoQ lit singles until a Minnesota mirror was finished. Unfortunately a discussion thread never materialized due to the delay. This year would it be possible to start the lit singles discussion now with a disclaimer that people playing the Minn mirror shouldn't read the thread?

First field update:

South: 1 team
Chaska: 1-3 teams
EP players: 2 teams
GSFHSA: 1 team

Please email me if you're interested in playing! I'll be sending out personal invites to coaches later this week, so I expect the field to expand soon.

It looks like EP may be able to field two (2!) teams for this.

Is this the final field?

Also, at what time does registration begin?

I'm excited to play the questions!

Sadly, no questions on Jonathan Livingston Seagull, though.

Top Playoff bracket:
1. Chaska A
2. "Four Quarks for Muster Mark"
3. Chaska B
4. GSFHSA

There was a tiebreaker for determining the fourth seed for the playoff bracket between GSFHSA and South, with GSFHSA won.

Lower Bracket:
1. South
2. "Watson Krik? Krak! Rulesssssssssss"

I'd just like to take an opportunity to thank all of the teams who came out for this tournament. I saw a ton of great games and promising teams, and I hope that you all do Minnesota proud at HSNCT and PACE.
