NYC Area Summer Practices
Does anybody want to actually get this off the ground this year? I know Doug tried last year but as far as I know it didn't work out. All we basically need is a location and dates/days to use. Any ideas?
(Pitching this now rather than later to get this hammered out).

Re: NYC Area Summer Practices
If we can find some public location that we could all meet at (Starbucks? library? just throwing out some ideas) this could definitely work

I would definitely be in favor of this. As long as it's somewhere accessible by subway and/or NJ Transit bus.

My two cents are that it would have to be someplace fairly quiet, which rules out starbucks. I suppose the NYPL would be a good candidate if you are willing to play slapbowl.

If the Mid-Atlantic T-Party "mirror" taught me anything, public library meeting rooms can be conducive to buzzer-equipped quizbowl.Anti-Climacus wrote:My two cents are that it would have to be someplace fairly quiet, which rules out starbucks. Hope these pan out. It'll be good for HS and first/second-year college kids.

A lot of libraries have meeting rooms that you can reserve for a while. I used to do that in middle school a lot (not for quizbowl, but still.) They don't expect you to be quiet in there.

As a librarian, I can tell you most public libraries have rooms for this and other purposes and don't expect you to be quiet. Most do expect an adult sponsor, however.

If need be, I'll come as the "adult sponsor". I'll grow out my beard, put on a suit, and there ya go.

Keep me posted. A few of my players are interested in doing this and I would certainly be happy to serve as "adult chaperone"/moderator.
