Fake ICT 2 Mirror at UIUC - March 21st
Fake ICT 2 Mirror at UIUC - March 21st
This is the formal announcement for a mirror of the Fake Intercollegiate Championship Tournament Experiment 2, to be held at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. It is likely that we will also be mirroring the comic books tournament Saturday night, and Ryan Westbrook will also be running a side tournament on Sunday as well, so look out for those announcements as well.
FEES:
Base fee $120 per team
Buzzers: -$10 each (no limit)
Clocks: -$5 each (no limit)
Staffers: -$10 each (no limit)
Laptops: -$10 each (no limit)
Minimum fee: $0
To get a discount, buzzers must actually work for the purpose of a normal quizbowl game; that is, they must have eight working activators, a working control box, and either a working power cord or a fresh battery, as applicable. Don't waste everyone's time bringing broken buzzers to the tournament. That's actually worse than bringing no buzzers at all! Similarly, if clocks are battery-powered, they must contain a fresh battery to qualify for the discount. Don't bring broken staffers either.
ELIGIBILITY: In order to give teams preparing for the ICT the best possible competition, this is an entirely open tournament. Any team whatsoever of 1 to 4 people may play, regardless of whether the people involved go to the same school (or any school).
REGISTRATION: To register, post in this thread or email me at (username)@illinois.edu with the number of teams, buzzers, clocks, and staffers you want to bring, and an email address where you can be contacted with details.
LOCATION/DIRECTIONS: The tournament will take place in the Armory, on Armory Avenue stretching from Fourth to Sixth St. As soon as we get room reservations, such information will be disseminated.
PARKING: Across the street from the east side of the Armory is a huge parking lot where you can park for free. I will warn, however, that traffic will suck, as many people will be leaving town.
TIMES: Registration will run from 8:30 to 8:45 AM, with the goal of starting Round 1 as soon as possible after 8:45.
FORMAT: Games will use the NAQT rules (http://naqt.com/rules.html). There will be 18 packets produced for this tournament, and the tournament format will give teams as many games as possible, given the field size and our cognizance of the fact that people don't want to stay too late on a Sunday.
PAYMENT: All teams must pay on Saturday morning, in one of two forms: cash, or a personal or institutional check made out to Academic Buzzer Team. Unless you have made a specific arrangement, you must pay your full registration fee at or before the tournament. If you need an invoice ahead of time so that your sponsor can cut a check, let me know. Otherwise, all teams will receive invoices at the tournament.

I assume by "video games tournament" you mean "comic books tournament." In any case, Minnesota will likely have 1-2 teams for both FICHTE and Fake Trashionals.

Iowa is interested in attending this, although I do not know whether I will personally be able to attend. For the time being, put us down for 1 team.
Also, will there be a laptop discount?

Re: Fake ICT 2 Mirror at UIUC - March 21st
Since I believe only three packets of COMICS were read at Terrapin, there are three packets blind to everyone. Depending on interest and time and whatnot, this could just entail reading the three blind-to-all packets.
I also expect live and timely updates of the NCAA tourney throughout this tournament.

Harvard was at one point making plans to be at this. I have no idea if those plans are still being made -- you'd have to ask an officer of the team. But if Harvard doesn't go, I will go as a free agent.

Also, could attending teams/players let me know how many clocks/buzzers you will be bringing? I'd prefer to sew those up sooner rather than later.
Re: Fake ICT 2 Mirror at UIUC - March 21st
Michigan: 2 buzzer sets, and let's say 6 timers? We have ~18 timers and could bring all of them if A) they're needed, and B) that's not obnoxious.

As a matter of fact, the gym is pretty close to there. The problem is that this is our spring break, so all campus buildings except for the one that we're hosting the tournament in are closed, regardless of where we reserve rooms. I bet we can find an unused outdoor court somewhere, though.Magister Ludi wrote:Lets plan for Saturday night then. Tryg is incorrect. The main rec center (ARC) will be open 11-9 both days. Members (in this case, students here) can sponsor five guests at $10 a person. I'm going in on this, and I'm sure Mike/Tryg would as well. There are ample courts (8 that are primarily basketball, and given that it's break, we'd practically have our pick.millionwaves wrote:As a matter of fact, the gym is pretty close to there.
