POSTPONED FROM 1/10/09: Shady Side Tournament

Post by Terrible Shorts Depot »

Shady Side Academy will be hosting a quiz bowl tournament on January 10, 2009 on our Senior School Campus in Fox Chapel, a suburb of Pittsburgh. This tournament will have teams competing in a round robin fashion with each team consisting of up to 4 team members. We most likely will be using questions provided by High School Academic Pyramid Questions. We can assure that the will be of the highest quality and will consist of tossups (questions that are asked to all players that must be buzzed in on to be answered) and bonuses (three part questions asked to the team that got the previous tossup right). We aim to guarantee each team at least 8 rounds of play, with more games possible depending on field size. The top 3 teams and top 10 individuals will receive prizes. We are currently in talks with PACE about making this tournament a qualifier for the PACE NSC

If you have any questions, either about quiz bowl or the tournament, or desire to register, please email team president Charlie Rosenthal at [email protected] or team coach Dr. Kathy Malone at [email protected] .

The pricing for the tournament is as follows:
+$60 for the 1st team from each school
+$50 for each additional team from that school
-$10 for each buzzer from a school (max 2)
-$10 for each competent person who is willing to staff if the need arrises
+$3 per person for pizza (we are about 10 minutes from the nearest restaurant of any sort)
+$20 for the question set

Sincerely,
-Kathy Malone and Charlie Rosenthal

Also, we are soliciting a name for this tournament, as we are too uncreative to come up with one for ourselves. Anything that you could give us would be most appreciated.

Hmm. Just a reminder to DC-area teams that this IS the same weekend as TJ's in-house tournament, the M.O.H.I.T.

Given that the non-Pittsburgh teams that have attended a Pittsburgh tournament since my freshman year (03-04) have been DCC (at most twice, but I think once), Solon, State College, a pair of Erie schools, and IKE JOSE (who doesn't count since he attends everything everywhere), I don't think you'll see much conflict.

Hey, we did too. They won't be anymore, as my former assistant is wreaking havoc on the program, but we did attend some tourneys in Pittsburgh nonetheless.

Right now, I kinda want to name it "Charlie Rosenthal College Fund Invitational", but I don't know if Dr. Malone would go for that. I like the idea of JANISSARY, though. I'll have to run the names past the rest of the team. I love the work you guys are putting into this. Keep it up.

That's the current title of Armstrong's tournament, the Armstrong's Conceivably Regular Or Nearly Yearly Meet.

Due to the entirety of Western Pennsylvania not replying to emails and a field of 5, we're going to have to cancel this. I suppose we'll try again at a later date. Sorry...

If you are certain, can you change the thread title or should one of us mods do it for you?

I have no idea how to change the thread title, so it would probably be best if someone who knew how would do so. Thanks.
