Annct: 10/18 MO Saturday Night Lit Tournament: An Encounter

Post by theMoMA »

This is a formal announcement for the lit tournament to be played Saturday night (October 18) at the Minnesota Open, following the Open itself.

I plan to write 12 rounds. Packets will consist of 20 tossups and no bonuses. There will be powers and negs.

The distribution will be roughly the same as that of the previous lit tournament I was responsible for (at the Illinois Open last fall), which drew heavily from Jonathan Magin's Chicago Open lit tournament distribution. The questions will be approximately 25% American, 25% British, 25% European, 15% World, 10% common link/criticism/nonfiction/genre/other. There are also time period and difficulty distributions, which will be similar to the IO lit tournament.

The cost will be $15/person for experienced two-person teams, or $10/person for lesser-experienced teams of three players.

Please post in the thread if you plan to play or moderate for this, or email me at [email protected]. Hope to see you there!

I'm going to write most of this tournament, and Rob and Gautam will probably write the rest. If you're absolutely not coming to MO or any of its purported mirrors, and want to help out, I will consider taking on a larger stable of writers.

Due to your devious scheduling of the MO on a non-football weekend, I'll be available to moderate any of the events in which I'm not playing.

I'm definitely not playing the Lit tournament, so mark me down as a moderator for Saturday night.

I definitely want to compete two days before my birthday. It would be almost exactly one year since my only tournament championship to date--literature doubles with Jonathin Magin after the Illinois Open. I will take the Monday off as a paid sick day to drive back to Chicago.

I definitely intend to play in these doubles, so I am open to any teammate. I want to drive my rental eight hours each way for not only the main Minnesota Open but also the literature doubles and trash tourney. Like for the Chicago Open movie singles, I would like to donate some duplicate novels, literary movies, and classic movies for the top scorers/teams at the Minnesota Open, literature doubles, and trash tournament, respectively.
