JAVA Online Canadian Mirror (Sunday, September 12, 2021)

Post by Protean »

Hello everyone, this is the announcement for the Canadian online mirror of JAVA, a visual tournament written by Jaimie Carlson. This tournament will take place on Sunday, September 12, 2021, the day after McGill's COOT mirror - apologies for the late notice. I will be directing the tournament and can be contacted at [email protected]

Registration and Eligibility

Signing up to play or staff can be done using this spreadsheet.

Please note:
- There is a very tentative field cap at 4 right now as I wrangle up staff, but this is almost certainly going to be expanded if there is interest.
- This event is currently planned to be a doubles event, though this may be subject to change.
- This event is not open to middle school or high school players, but aside from that there are no school afilliation or eligibility requirements.
- This event will be open to non-Canadian players and teams, but Canadians will have priority. If you are a non-Canadian player interested in playing, please register onto the wait-list even if there are open team slots (you can put yourself down as a free agent as usual). Non-Canadian participants will remain on the wait-list until at least the end of Wednesday, September 8, at which point they will start being moved into the field as space allows.

Fees

The cost per player is $15 CAD, $10 of which will go towards the Indian Residential School Survivors Society (thanks to Cormac Beirne for the excellent charity suggestion) and the rest of which will be divided up amongst the staffers for their time. If you would like to play but this fee is prohibitive, please get in touch with me at [email protected].

Misconduct and Cheating

Discriminatory or threatening language or actions will not be tolerated. This includes (but is not limited to) discrimination based on sex, gender identity, race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. Those that display such behaviour will be removed from the tournament.

All forms of cheating are similarly banned and we reserve the right to remove those we believe to be cheating from the tournament. Cameras will be required to play.
