2020-2021 STASH Northeast Site @ NYU, 3/13/2021

Post by DogeofVenice »

I am pleased to announce that the Northeast collegiate site of STASH will be held at NYU on Saturday, March 13, 2021. The tournament will take place virtually on Discord. The opening meeting will begin at 8:45 AM and gameplay will begin at 9 AM. I, Doug Simons, will be the tournament director. Please direct any questions about this tournament to me at [email protected].

STASH is a High School Nationals-level set, easier than regular-difficulty college sets like EFT, but harder than novice college sets such as SUN. It is meant to be played by less experienced college quiz bowl teams. Information on the set can be found here: STASH Info

Any questions regarding the set can be directed to TJHSST Quizbowl at [email protected]. We will provide a link to a discussion discord following the conclusion of the tournament.

Eligibility:

The tournament will follow ACF’s eligibility rules. This tournament will also be geographically restricted to teams from New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Requests for an expectation to this geographic eligibility must be approved by TJHSST Quizbowl. While we will not place skill restrictions on attending teams, we encourage attending clubs to consider the strength of the teams they send in view of the set’s difficulty.

Rules:

This tournament will follow ACF’s gameplay rules. Players will be required to keep their cameras on except if given permission otherwise by tournament staff. You will be asked to abide by NYU Quizbowl's Code of Conduct upon joining the Tournament Discord.

Registration:

Please register for the tournament here: https://forms.gle/Ekopu92ejuxKwnwN6

We will cap the field at 16 teams for now.

Fees:
  • Base Fee: $80/team
  • Staffer Discount: -$20 per competent staffer with a working computer and microphone, maximum of 2 staffers per team
  • New to Quizbowl Discount: -$35, school claiming this discount must have played their first quiz bowl tournament within the last two years
  • Minimum Fee: $25/team
Any teams who drop from the tournament less than 24 before the start of the opening meeting will be required to pay $25 to cover their portion of the mirror fee. Details on how to pay will be sent out before the tournament.

We look forward to seeing you all on Discord next month!

This tournament happened and a good time was had by all. Brown and MIT A both went 6-2 over the course of the day and MIT A won a hair-raising final over Brown 285-280.

Since stats were unavailable right after Round 10, our top 10 scorers were:

1. Michael Borecki of Bowdoin
2 Jason Hong of Brown
3 Anson Berns of Brown
4 Daniel Richardson of NYU
5 David Gomez of MIT A
6 David Do of MIT A
7 Vincent Fan of MIT A
8 David Shimshoni of NYU
9 Ryan Conti of MIT A
10 Nten Nyiam of MIT A

Congratulations to them and to MIT A for winning the tournament.

Stats available here: https://hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/6868/

Category stats will be sent to attending teams.
