WORKSHOP 2021 West "@" the Claremont Colleges

Post by Maths Wizard (Tau is King!) »

Hey y'all!

The Claremont Colleges are excited to announce a mirror of WORKSHOP on March 6th. This is an about medium-difficulty college tournament.

This mirror is restricted to teams from the West Coast, which has the same definition as from IKEA. This is to say, both college and high school teams from Arizona, British Columbia, California, Oregon, and Washington may attend.

Staffers will be payed $20 for the whole day. We will be using Ophir's advanced stats. A maximum of six players can be on any one team, and only four can play at a time. We'll put on a soft cap of 16 teams and reassess later.

The cost of this tournament will be as follows:
+$90 base fee per team
-$20 for each staffer a team provides
-$20 for schools new to quiz bowl (defined as having never played a quiz bowl tournament since September 2019, and which have no players who played such a tournament for another school).
-$20 if a school is shorthanded (2 players or fewer)
The minimum fee for a school is $50 per team. We will prefer payment via Venmo, but alternate arrangements can be made.

To play this tournament, players must abide by the WORKSHOP code of conduct. Players are expected to have their cameras on and highly encouraged to have one hand visible on screen at all times, although this will be heavily enforced only if cheating is suspected.

To register for the tournament, please email [email protected] with the following information:

-name of your school
-how many teams you plan to bring, and if they are shorthanded (rosters appreciated, but not required until closer to the tournament)
-how many staffers you plan to bring, and if they have preferences for reading or scorekeeping
-a phone number from which I can reach you (for emergencies)
-if you need an invoice for the tournament

If you have any questions, again, feel free to email me.

Congrats to everyone who participated in the tournament, and a huge thank you to staffers! Berkeley ended up winning with a 10-0 record.
