Please direct any questions about this tournament to me at [email protected] or post them in this thread. We hope to see you online soon!
Time and Place:
This tournament will be held on February 20, 2021 on Discord, with Round 1 beginning at 9:00 am Eastern Time. A link to the tournament server will be sent to all registered teams during the week of the tournament.
Rules:
This tournament will use ACF’s gameplay rules, with their addenda for the inclusion of powermarks and any necessary modifications for online quizbowl.
Eligibility:
This mirror is open to closed college teams from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina that comply with ACF's eligibility rules. Closed high school teams from the region outlined above may also play this mirror.
Registration and Field Size:
Registration for this tournament is now closed.
This tournament’s field will be capped at 18 teams, after which a waitlist will form.
Fees and Payment:
Base fee: $90 per team
Team-provided staff discount: $20 off of your school's total registration fee for each EXPERIENCED staffer who staffs for the entirety of the tournament. Staff must be able to complete a round in 40-45 minutes, must have functional laptops and internet connectivity, and are highly encouraged to complete ACF’s interactive online moderator training if they have not already done so. While your school may supply as many staff as you please, you will not be discounted beyond your minimum fee.
"New to quizbowl" discount: $30 off of the total registration fee for any school whose teams have never played a regular-difficulty (not exclusively novice) collegiate academic tournament before September 1, 2019 and whose players have not formerly played such tournaments for another school.
Minimum fee: $50 per team
For payment, Venmo would be easiest, but we will accommodate whatever payment method is best for each team (including PayPal, Zelle, and check). Teams will be provided with an invoice and an account/address for payment once they register. Any questions or concerns regarding payment should be sent to me directly.
Unaffiliated staff will be paid $25 for the day and may sign up to staff this tournament on a first-come, first-serve basis via this Google Form. Please note that priority will be given first to staff from Duke and UNC, and then to staff provided by the schools who send teams to this tournament. We will confirm availability several weeks in advance of the tournament if we need unaffiliated staff.
Code of Conduct and Anti-Cheating Policy:
Duke and UNC Quiz Bowl are committed to fostering a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. All of this tournament’s players and staff will be required to affirm the 2021 WORKSHOP Code of Conduct in a dedicated channel in the tournament’s Discord server before they are granted team or moderator roles.
All players in this tournament will be required to keep their cameras turned on and keep one hand visible on screen during all live questions. Players who seek reasonable exceptions to this policy must get their exceptions approved by the Tournament Director, and may only play a round without their camera turned on as long as their opposing team is comfortable with that. For further details regarding our cheating and misconduct policies, please consult the WORKSHOP Code of Conduct.
