Spring Novice at Carnegie Mellon

Post by TheInventor »

I am pleased to announce that the Great Lakes site of the collegiate Spring Novice tournament will be hosted by Carnegie Mellon on March 27, 2021. Please see the linked post for more information about the question set.

Registration
Please fill out this google form to register. The last day to register is March 13.

Fees and Discounts
  • $80 per team
  • $50 for teams new to quizbowl (defined as having not played a tournament in the 2018-19 or 2019-20 seasons)
  • -$25 per trained staffer
The minimum fee is $30 per team

Payment
Payment will occur via Venmo - further details will be given upon registration. If this doesn’t work for you, just email us at [email protected] - we can probably work something out.

Format and Schedule
The tournament will follow ACF gameplay rules and will be hosted on Discord. Server details will be sent the week of the tournament. Teams should be on the server by 8:45 AM ET for the opening meeting, and gameplay will start at 9:00 AM ET.

Eligibility
This tournament will follow the eligibility rules set by team writing the question set:
This tournament is intended for players with no or very little quizbowl experience. Players with extensive quizbowl experience are encouraged to help staff.

You are not eligible for this tournament if you meet any of the following criteria
  • You have ever scored more than 60 points per game at a quizbowl tournament (excluding middle school tournaments).
  • You have made the playoffs at HSNCT or top 32 at NSC.
  • You have played ICT (DI or DII) or ACF Nationals.
If you meet one or more of these criteria but believe you still fit the intended audience of this tournament, please email [email protected] to request an eligibility exemption.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected].

We have decided to push the registration deadline to March 21. As it stands, the field is now

RIT (1)
Michigan (2)
CWRU (1)

To our fellow clubs in the region with eligible players, this is an excellent opportunity to engage newer club members and bolster your club - so please sign up if you have eligible players!

Additionally, we are in the process of setting up an alternative payment method - if that is an issue or you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected]!
