FRENCH II on Discord (11/14)

Post by Shorts are comfy and easy to wear »

FRENCH II is now ready to play. There are 12 packets of 20 questions each and it will cost $20 per person to play. It will be played as quads. To give more people a chance to fit it into their quizbowl schedule, I plan on running it twice over Discord on dates to be determined in the poll. I will add a team formation/staffing spreadsheet after the poll closes in a week.

For those who need refreshing, FRENCH II is an open level history tournament written by Erik Christensen, Laurence Li, Rahul Rao-Pothuraju, and me with the following distribution:
15% US
30% Euro
45% World
5% Historically-themed other academic
5% Historically-themed trash

There are no specific subdistributions within each category, but care was taken for wide geographic coverage. However, temporal coverage trends away from 20th century because I'm not as interested in it. We also strove to write questions that balanced fresh theming/answerlines with accessibility.

Feel free to email me at [email protected] with questions or concerns.

10/24 and 11/14 were the most voted for dates, so those are the days we will run this. Here is the team formation/staffing spreadsheet for both dates, with 10/24 on the first sheet and 11/14 on the second: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

At the risk of asking an idiotic question...

is $20 per person or per team?

A perfectly reasonable question. $20 per person. This set is quite large for a side event, and we hope that you all find both its quantity/quality worth the slightly higher cost.

Since I expect this set to only take ~5 hours to run, there is some flexibility in when we can start. Please vote in the poll if there is a time you'd prefer. All options are in Central time.

The 10/24 mirror is canceled due to lack of interest.

We are still looking for staffers for this event, which will now officially start at 11 am CST. If you are interested in $20 and our eternal gratitude, please put your name and email in the spreadsheet linked above.

Between staffing issues and there only being one mirror instead of the two I had planned on, it has become necessary to play this event as quads. Feel free to team up as you like, though I request that you don't make any teams that are too overpowered. After a week (10/30), I will match up whomever is left and will inform them of the pairings.

Speaking of staying informed, please add an email for your team if you haven't yet. This also applies to any free agents who have not joined a team by next Friday so I can let you know who I've paired you with.

I've combined preexisting teams/assigned free agents. Aside from the Walston/Bentley/Shimizu team (which is still a three person team because there weren't enough free agents to fill it), if you weren't on a team of four and neither you nor your preexisting partner received an email from me, it's because I do not have your email. Any such people are on a team with contact info in the spreadsheet, so they can coordinate with their team if they want.

We are one moderator short of being able to run this tournament. If you are available this Saturday (11/14) from 11-4 CST, I hope you will consider helping us out. If you do want to help, please add your name and email to the staffer section of the spreadsheet linked above.
