PROTEINBOWL 3: Side Event Edition (2019-2020)

Post by Jet Fuel Can't Melt Steel Dreams »

Hello! This is announcement for PROTEINBOWL 3, the third installment to the series of packets written about proteins (see PROTEINBOWL 1 and PROTEINBOWL 2. Unlike the previous two installments, which were individual packets, PROTEINBOWL 3 will be an entire side event of 5 packets of 20 tossups. Also unlike the previous two installments, there will actually be an attempt made at difficulty control in accordance to the following (tentative) difficulty distribution (note that this distribution applies to both the difficulty of answerlines and difficulty of clues within a tossup, not just answerline difficulty):

3/0: approximately the typical ACF Nationals question difficulty
4/0: approximately the difficulty of questions in 2018 Chicago Open
6/0: tossups noticeably harder than 2018 Chicago Open but no harder than the average question in PROTEINBOWL 1.
5/0: tossups harder than the average question in PROTEINBOWL 1 but no harder than the average question in PROTEINBOWL 2.
2/0: tossups harder than the average question in PROTEINBOWL 2.

The questions are written by Geoffrey Chen (me) and Vishwa Shanmugam (Karansebes Schnapps Vendor). The questions will be powermarked and superpowermarked, with powermarks/superpowermarks placed such that it will be approximately as hard to power (or superpower) any given tossup, regardless of its difficulty. I have not decided on a fee for this set yet. The current goal is for this set to be written and fully edited by the date of the 2020 ICT.
