NAQT Collegiate Novice @ University of Florida (9/22/19)
I am pleased to announce a mirror of NAQT's Collegiate Novice set at the University of Florida on Sunday, September 22, 2019.
Eligibility:
We ask that clubs limit their players to those in either their first or second year of collegiate competition. Players comfortable on EFT difficulty or above should generally not play this tournament. Please notify me if any players are past their second year of collegiate quizbowl; moreover, I reserve the right to prohibit any individual from playing this tournament on the basis of skill or experience. Novice is for new players, not to sandbag on easier questions.
Tournament Site and Time
We are currently still waiting on room reservation officials to get back to us, but in all likelihood, the tournament will be held in Matherly Hall, on the northeast corner of campus. This post will be updated when our information changes. Our field cap is similarly pending. The tournament registration will begin at 8:30 A.M., and questions will begin being read at 9:00 A.M. on the dot.
Fees and Finances
Base Fee: $20 per player
Buzzer Discount: -$5 per complete, working buzzer system
Travel Discount: -$10 per 200 miles traveled one way
New Team Discount: -$10 if your school's quiz bowl organization wasn't active prior to the 2017-18 school year.
There is a minimum fee of $30 dollars per team.
Registration
To register, please email me, Zach Knecht, at [email protected], with the number of teams you plan to bring, the rosters of said teams, and how many buzzers you plan to bring.
Field (teams/buzzers/staff)
UF (6/2/many)
NCF (2/2/0)
UCF (2/3/2)
We look forward to seeing all of you at our first tournament of the 2019-20 school year! Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any other questions! Thank you!

Hey, Zach! Do you know what NAQT Invitational Series sets will overlap with the Collegiate Novice set? This will be important to community college teams who want to attend your event, as College of Central Florida will be using some IS set in late October. But maybe this is a question for some NAQT members.

The number for the set is CNS-186C, so I believe it is a modified IS-186

186 is indeed the set being used for the Erik Korray Open at Central Florida in October (so teams may not attend both events).ValenciaQBowl wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 10:09 am Hey, Zach! Weeeeeak. That's going to cut 8-10 registrations for the UF tournament. Bummer.

This post has been edited to indicate the tournament has been moved to Sunday, September 22, due to a home football game that would make parking impossible on the initially scheduled Saturday.

In a thrilling one game final, UF Honegger (Mateo Acosta, Malia Fortney, Mia Steller) defeated UF Auric (Jason Zappulla, Kayla Kalhor, Jenna Callison). Both teams finished 7-2 in the prelims.
Stats will be posted shortly. Thank you to all teams that played today, and thank you to our staffers for helping make this tournament run quickly and smoothly.

Daaaaaamn, Anthony is incredible at film questions, as I saw first-hand in August when he whipped me on most of the film distribution at The Unanswered Question mirror. Impressive to put up those kinds of points on Taylor. Congrats!
