UMN Collegiate Novice (10/2)

Post by Apocolocyntora »

I am pleased to announce that the University of Minnesota will be hosting NAQT Collegiate Novice on Saturday, October 2, 2021. This tournament will take place in Nicholson Hall, with registration starting at 8:30 AM and play beginning at 9:00 AM. It will run on the NAQT set CNS-204C.

Registration
Please register via the posting on NAQT's website at this link: https://www.naqt.com/registration/field.jsp?tournament_id=12678

Fees
Base Fee: $60 per team
Buzzer discount: -$5 per complete, functioning buzzer system
Travel discount: -$10 per 200 miles traveled one direction
Staffer discount: -$20 per experienced staffer

There will be a minimum fee of $30 per team.

Due to a new UMN-wide payment system, registered teams will receive a statement prior to the tournament. The UMN Finance Department will contact teams after the tournament to send a formal invoice, which may be paid online. If you are unable to pay via credit card or checking account online, we will accept cash the day of the tournament.

Eligibility
In the spirit and purpose of a novice tournament, we ask that all attending players be either first-year college players OR players who have never played a tournament above novice/introductory difficulty at the collegiate level (Collegiate Novice, Spring Novice Tournament, ACF Fall, etc. fall under the "novice" consideration for this tournament). If you have any questions about whether you or your team are eligible, please email us at [email protected]. We will address eligibility on case-by-case basis if needed.

High school teams and their coaches are not allowed to play or staff events using the Collegiate Novice series.

This tournament is limited to teams in the North Midwest (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan Upper Peninsula, North and South Dakota).

COVID-19 Policy
In order to limit the spread of COVID-19, we ask that all attendees, including staffers, be vaccinated and have proof of vaccination on them at the tournament (a physical vaccination card or a photo of it). In accordance with University of Minnesota policies, all attendees, including staffers, are required to wear a mask at all times while indoors. Failure to adhere to these policies may result in you or your team being disqualified from the tournament.

We will space out teams from each other as much as our buzzer systems allow in order to minimize contact.

Field

Our field size has been updated to 14 teams. It is unlikely that we will expand the field again. The field will be updated below.

Feel free to email [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns! Thank you!

The field for this tournament is now full. We encourage interested teams to register for the waitlist in case a team drops. We may also be able to secure additional rooms in a separate building to expand the field.

Thank you to everyone who attended our mirror of Collegiate Novice! We had fun hosting this tournament and we hope you enjoyed the set. A huge thank you is owed to our staffers, who made this event possible.

Minnesota B took first place after clearing the field. Jim Sweeney of Minnesota C, Luke Henson of Cornell College, and Mario Valento of Minnesota B were first, second, and third place individual scorers, respectively.
