UWU Solo for Charity [21/5/2021]

Post by Comrade »

“Horrifying”

“Too hard”

“WHY?”

I’m excited to invite you to UWU Solo, an online Open solo tournament that will take place on Friday May 21 from 5:30pm - 9:30pm EDT on Zoom.

The Set

“UWU” ([high school name redacted]? We’re Unaffiliated!) is a canon-expansion, vanity-esque set, roughly Collegiate Novice level(?) set written by students and alumni of the aforementioned Canadian institution without its knowledge or approval. The distribution is as follows:

History 4
Science 3
Literature 3
Fine Arts 2.5
Current Events 2
RMPSS 2
Trash 1.5
Mixed/Misc 1
Geo 1

Questions were written with a specific emphasis on Canadian and non-western content.

The Format

The tournament will have five rounds of 40 tossups each, followed by a 20 tossup final. There will be a maximum of eight players per room, per round, and four players in the final. 15 point powers and -5 negs for every incorrect answer will be in effect - questions will be considered “dead” after three negs.

Eligibility

Anyone not currently in High School is eligible to play.

Registration

Registration is free with a donation of any amount to Rainbow Railroad, a Canadian charity that helps 2SLGBTQ+ people flee persecution. The link to register is https://forms.gle/st1f5hDyAUPtXoK99, and the link to donate to Rainbow Railroad is https://www.rainbowrailroad.org/donate. Please register before May 14 at 12:00pm EDT.

This sounds like a fun idea for a good cause. You might find it hard to get signups for a Friday afternoon on such short notice though, especially since the form is currently restricted to those with UTS email accounts. It could work better to move this back a bit.

I'm also a little confused about the difficulty. I don't really see how it could be collegiate novice level and expand the canon at the same time.

Hope it goes well!
