2021 PACE Writing Mentorship Program

Post by hftf »

PACE is pleased to announce the continuation of our mentorship program for new writers, now entering its fourth year.

Program details

The program is scheduled for Monday, October 4, 2021, through Sunday, January 16, 2022. Over the course of that period, mentees admitted into the program will be expected to complete 24 questions and a self-reflection, with mentoring and feedback being provided by experienced writers and editors.

Questions written during the program will be eligible for use in the 2022 NSC and beyond, and writers will be paid accordingly.

Selection to the program is completely anonymous and is based solely on the quality of the application. We encourage eligible people of all backgrounds, genders, ages, and experience levels to apply.

The number of admissions may be limited by program resources, with priority decided by application quality. In the event of low interest, there is a possibility that this year’s program may be cancelled.

Eligibility

Anyone who has graduated high school and is not coaching any NSC-eligible team may apply. No previous writing experience is required. Anyone who was not accepted or did not complete the program last year remains eligible to apply.

Applicants who have already successfully written or edited for collegiate sets may be deemed overqualified for the program and can inquire with me if the mentorship program is appropriate, or apply directly to be a writer or editor for the 2022 NSC here.

Application

Applications consist of contact and personal information, expectations for the program, and a writing sample of 4 tossups and 4 bonuses in NSC format. Full guidelines for application writing samples can be found here. Please pay special attention to the formatting guidelines in the document above.

The application form is here. The application will be due Sunday, September 26, 2021.

Question security

Application questions may not have been written for or used in any previous set, submitted for any previous application or packet, or seen by anyone apart from the applicant.

If you are accepted into the program, your application questions may potentially be used in an NSC set, so do not discuss them with anyone at any point. If you are not accepted into the program, you are free to discuss them, but you cannot resubmit them to or reuse them in any set that the program organizers, who will be reviewing applications, might play.

Inquiries

If you have any questions, you can email me at [email protected] or post in this thread.

Becoming a mentor

Please fill out this form if you are interested in serving as a mentor. If you would like to help organize the program (along with Ophir Lifshitz, Tejas Raje, Victor Prieto, and Mike Bentley, the 2022 NSC Head Editor), send me an email.
