Quizbowl in Nevada/Utah/New Mexico/Colorado/Nebraska/Wyoming

Post by njsbling »

Hello All-I am working to get NAQT State Championship tournaments held sometime in April in Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming. Does anyone have contacts for any of these states? Thanks

Also Oregon-I hear there is some quasi-Quiz Bowl competition in Southern Oregon; does anyone have contacts for other areas of the state? Thanks

There was a kid from somewhere near Vegas who posted a couple days ago.

Apparently the RAF is attending Arcadia Carnal Embrace on 3/23, so I'll tell you how it goes if they come

Jeff posted a link for a Vegas-area quiz bowl league in that thread, although RAF isn't involved in it. This is the list of teams and coaches.

I believe Jeff will be working to hold a tournament in Vegas in the Spring and he will be in contact with the schools in the area, thanks.

Yep, RAF attended Carnal Embrace back in April. They had to leave after the morning rounds, but you can find the tournament stats here. http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournament ... s/prelims/

I was also disappointed to find out that they didn't attend History Bowl Nationals. They seemed up to the challenge.

NHBB will be holding our Colorado tournament on Feb 15 at Ft. Collins (I will almost certainly direct it). We'll expect about 20-30 teams based on last year's 16 teams, plus a healthy group of newcomers who competed in the middle school bee in Denver last year. I will also look to direct tournaments in Montana, SW Kansas, and New Mexico on the same trip. Other than that, we are certainly going to do another Nevada tournament, likely 2 at Boise State plus Northern Idaho, 3 in Arizona, and an inaugural tournament in Utah for the Intermountain West area. Dates to come for the 2-3 people from that whole region who read the forums...

NHBB's inaugural Wyoming History Bee and Bowl has now been scheduled for Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Big Horn High School in Sheridan on B Set. This is within about a 90 minute drive of Billings, and we hope to tap into both new schools in Wyoming, and those who have frequented our tournaments at Skyview High School in Billings in past years. I'll be directing this year's Montana History Bee and Bowl at Skyview on C Set on February 8, and will be promoting this there. If time allows, as it should, I also hope to visit a few Wyoming and Montana schools while I'm out that way.

If you need any help from me next semester, my teaching schedule is just Tuesdays and Thursdays, so I can probably find time on weekends to get to Wyoming or Utah or western Montana (or northern Idaho).

Is that just the Las Vegas area? I found some sort of "Academic Olympics" thing in Reno that appears to use NAQT questions, at least in part.

Plenty of History Bowl in the region:
February 24 - Ed W. Clark High, Las Vegas, NV (C Set)
March 10 - Manzano High, Albuquerque (C Set)

Working on tournaments in Arizona, Colorado, and Nebraska as well.

BYU will be hosting a tournament on Saturday, Nov. 23.

We hope that this can be the start of a decent circuit in the SLC metro area.

We sent out letters and are e-mailing schools now. One school has already registered, and we're getting some interest from a few other schools.
