Team Illinois Tryouts for 2021 NASAT

Post by MLaudermith »

The 2021 NASAT (National All-Star Academic Tournament) will be held online June 19-20, and we in Illinois want to defend our title and extend our string of consecutive wins. . .so it is time to hold tryouts for Team Illinois.

Tryouts using the WORKSHOP set will be held the last week of April, in two parts:
(1) Sunday evening, Apr. 25 –- 4 or 5 rounds of toss-ups read to players in different groups for each round.
(2) Evenings Apr. 26-30 –- 3 rounds of bonuses read to each player individually. The exact date and time for this is to be set by each reader and player at a mutually convenient time.

Two teams will be chosen, a total of 8 to 10 players. Linda Greene (Rockford Auburn H.S.) and Jonathan Legendre (Chicago Latin School) will serve as coaches for the team again this year. Since the event will not be in person, there will be no travel costs and thus no cost to team members. The IHSSBCA will pay for the team’s registration.

All interested players are encouraged to sign up to try out by emailing Coach Greene at [email protected]. Any questions you may have can be directed to her at that email address.

Please note the following:
*all players must have video for tryouts and the tournament
*players trying out should not participate at any event using the WORKSHOP set of questions
*players will be required to sign a form regarding competing honestly and guarding question security, and will need to have parents sign a permission form to participate
*players chosen for the team need to be available for online practices in May and June, and for the tournament on Saturday, June 19 (from about 9 AM to 7 PM) and Sunday, June 20 (10 AM to 5 PM)
