New protocol for new users

Post by BuzzerZen »

As of 2/29/08, newly registered users on hsquizbowl will have their first seven posts to the forums be moderated. While we're glad that you want to join our community, there are some community norms that new users often violate, like starting threads soliciting praise for their own team. So rather than let new users be yelled at by the masses for such things, the moderators will now be informing you if you make some common mistakes in your first posts. Most of our dozen or so moderators check the boards daily, and some of us check frequently, so posts from new members should usually be approved within a few hours, unless it's late at night. Hopefully this policy will help ease new members into the standards of our forums.

It's essentially arbitrary. If it proves too much of a burden on the mods, it'll go down. If people still post nonsense after seven posts, it may go up. But seven felt right.
