Looking to start a team

Post by jpdibern720 »

Hello everyone,
I am a teacher at Saint Catharine Academy in the Bronx and I was looking to put together a team. Are there any local or Westchester schools who currently compete that can help me get started? I would appreciate any help that you can offer. Thanks.

https://sites.google.com/site/hchsquizbowl/ is a prominent team in your area. These teams: http://www.naqt.com/stats/tournament-te ... nt_id=4239 http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournament ... /combined/ http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournament ... all_games/ http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournament ... /combined/ also compete at things.

Avoid any "leagues" or TV shows using bad (Questions Unlimited) questions. There's lots of NAQT and other good events in your area and several people from metro NYC who post here, so hopefully one of them will be along shortly to give you some more info.

I would suggest first by looking at the Date Claims for tournaments here: viewtopic.php?f=47&t=13166 and seeing if maybe you could attend some of these tournaments. There are a couple of leagues that run on Questions Unlimited up in Westchester but as Matt said you shouldn't really join them. Of the tournaments listed in the date claims I would say that the LIST mirror in Columbia and the A set being run in Kings Park on Long Island would be good places to start and are within a manageable distance. Our school is currently in the process of seeing if it would be feasible to host the NYC Metro Area state tournament in April, so that would be another good tournament to attend. Unfortunately there don't seem to be too many tournaments in the coming weeks around here, but that should give you enough time to get a team together once the schedule gets heavier in March/April.

Alec, how far are you in planning METRO NY States?
