Date Claim: Illinois Novice (MCMNT) October 16th 2010

Post by Ike »

Hey Quizbowl world,

University of Illinois is excitingly announcing that we will be hosting the next incarnation of Matt Cvijanovich Memorial Novice Tournament (MCMNT) on October 16th 2010. Similarly, we will now be hosting our annual Illinois Open Tournament in the spring of 2011. MCMNT will be an in-house write tournament with me, Ike Jose, as head editor of what will be a difficulty appropriate set. The tournament announcement details are going to be worked out some time after finals, but we are interested in mirrors, so feel free to contact me about doing so by posting here or emailing me at [email protected] - remove that string of 4 Q's.

That has yet to be discussed with Brown.

Will IO & TIT be combined next season, too?

No. However, it is very possible Maryland may choose to mirror Illinois Open.

Will this have strict eligibility rules like ACF Novice (or whatever it's being called)? Or will it follow a schematic closer to the eligibility rules for UIUC's 2010 MCMNT/MUT Mirror?

As unconfirmed tournament director, I will be imposing the rules from last year, with the exception that high school superteams will not be allowed to coalesce. I feel that at a tournament at this level, they are inappropriate for the field.

Ooooo...sucks for Ben and Nolan. Sucks even more for me if Loyola and OPRF decide to come separately.

Yeah, Aaron beat me to the punch on the announcement. For various reasons, we will be combining tournaments, and using the EFT label. Illinois will be responsible for providing seven packets and Brown seven packets. I will be doing most of the editing as explained in Aaron's post.

N.B. - For the EFT mirror at Illinois, there will be no novice restriction. See actual announcement when I make it.

I want to quickly update this with some new announcements.

We will now be hosting EFT at UIUC on October 2nd, 2010. I will also be taking over from Ike as TD. If you are interested in attending our mirror, you should contact me (you can copy my email address from the button under my username) about your attendance, any moderators/buzzers you might be bringing, and things of a similar nature. I will create a new tournament announcement at some point in the next two weeks after I iron out a few more details with respect to this tournament.

October 2nd works well for us, so there's a very good chance that WKU will be coming to this, most likely with 2 teams.
