Maggie L. Walker Governor's School in Richmond, VA will be hosting a mirror of the Minnesota Undergrad Tournament on Sunday, March 14. Please email me at sangelo147 AT gmail DOT com to register. Checks will need to be made out to Maggie L. Walker Governor's School.

The information below is copied from the main announcement for this tournament:

Who can play this tournament?
Only undergraduate (and high school) students can play this tournament. If you are a grad student, you cannot play this event.

What kind of difficulty can I expect?
MUT 2010 will be in line with other novice tournaments such as recent incarnations of ACF Fall and past incarnations of MUT.

Is Packet Submission Required?
Any team attending any mirror may submit a packet, but is not required to do so. We encourage enthusiastic teams to submit packets; it helps us get a good feel of what young writers are thinking of, and allows us to reevaluate our own perceptions of difficulty, viability of answer choices, etc.

Yeah, St. Anselm's is definitely interested in this (or at least, I am.) We'll let you know more later in the week.

William & Mary is interested. It's at the tail end of our Spring Break but we should be okay for one team at least. We have no money right now but since we host a high school tournament the very next week, it should be pretty simple to mark the amount we'd normally play for off of MLW's fee, no?

I'm 99% certain we aren't going to that tournament, so no.

Sad face. Oh well we should still be there since reimbursing whoever writes the check one week later should be no problem.

Dorman is officially "expressing interest". We should be able to give a definite answer by Friday.

Sadly, we won't be able to make it. We're disappointed, as we always enjoy Maggie Walker tournaments.

TJ's actually not going to be able to make it to this either, sorry.

Dr. Barnes told me today that he apparently has to go to a room usage meeting of some sort with the administration on Thursday, so it would be incredibly helpful if people could give me some indication (if not a firm commitment) of what they're doing by Wednesday night. Thanks.

We'll definitely be there with one team, I guess there's a small possibility of having two.

Hey, since someone asked me about a shorthanded discount: I asked Gautam and found out that UMN usually charges $20/player for shorthanded teams, so please let me know if that applies to your team when you register.

I'll be sending an email to contact people from each school later this week, but it'd be cool if people could get there between 8 and 8:45 and we'll try to start as close to 9 as we can.

Also, more registrations would be awesome. We can easily handle 8 teams, but if we end up with more than that without someone besides VCU registering a staffer I'd need to figure something out, so I would very much appreciate registrations sooner rather than later if anyone's on the fence about this.

Confirmation from W&M and VCU would be very much appreciated.

Also, this will be in the email I'll send tomorrow night, but there's a church next to our school that uses the parking lot adjacent to the door that will be open. Thus, it would be kind of people to park in the large parking lot off Lombardy Street. You can reach the door that will be unlocked by walking around the building, starting in the direction of the soccer field. Thanks.

MUT Gov Mirror Liveblog:

6:45:00 AM: Pick up Waffle House Liveblog veteran Paul Marchsteiner from campus
7:00:00 AM: Become puzzled over warning to remember Daylight Savings for tournament start time; believe Daylight Savings only begin on Sundays.
7:00:30 AM: Call Sarah Angelo, ask "IS THERE A TOURNAMENT TODAY????" Am told yes.
7:00:40 AM: Sarah wisely thinks a moment, and notes that "the GDS tournament is today. The tournament at Gov is tomorrow."
7:15:00 AM: Return to College Park, give Paul 24 hours to learn orgo.

This might not look so good to you, but given that we got the weekend, location, and event right - and didn't end up in Los Angeles - it's actually a step in the right direction for me.

I hope, for Sarah's sake, that she was at the GDS tournament or otherwise already up for some reason. I guess I hope that for your sake too, since if I were woken up to have this conversation (in some hypothetical world where I'm not woken up at 6:00 AM by hungry cats pulling my hair) I would make my displeasure plain.

I actually thought about that, but guessed that the only reason the event wouldn't be Saturday was if there was such a conflict. I suppose the alternative plan of camping out for a night in the halls of Maggie Walker isn't so unappealing - we nearly had to do that at CO two years ago, and that room had a mouse.

I was in the process of falling asleep on the minibus en route to GDS, which is why it took me a second to realize which tournament Chris meant. No worries, though. See you guys tomorrow.

Thanks to Evan for letting me post stats from his house, since the MLWGS internet filter went nuts and blocked everything. UMD defeated VCU in both games of an advantaged final.

Sarah, please put in round numbers and packet names so round report can mean anything. TUH would be nice too.

Sorry, Evan, I haven't done stats by myself before. I had to make a new tournament to get them fixed, so the new link is here.

Nice job getting the stats up so quick, and thanks for running the tournament so well Sarah, great job. We basically got 11 rounds and an extended lunch in before 4:30, maybe more high schools should host these things...

Also, I'd like to say, Harry gets my Quizbowl Order of Patriotic War, First Class, for playing solo in every tournament I go to or hear much about, losing almost every game, and yet coming back for more. He restores my faith in quizbowl's humanity (...and humanities  )
