So since it looks like our high school tournament on the 17th will be cancelled due to a lack of interest, we will probably be able to send a team to this

Hey, can someone from MIT get back to us regarding the packet-freelancing deal?

Thanks,
Gautam

You should have heard from Chris.

Also: I'm going to be out of town, so Ylaine and Rohan are now in charge. They can be reached at [ylaine (at) mit (dot) edu] and [agrawalr (at) MIT (dot) EDU].

Ylaine sent me an email earlier today telling me this will probably be cancelled due to a lack of interest. So yeah.....

In light of this, it would be nice to hear from MIT about whether packets are coming our way or not. The tournament can certainly survive without them, but it's kind of necessary to know what's coming as soon as possible.

So yale and RPI are really the only ones who want to come to this?

I was interested as well, but I have it on good authority that Ylaine has no plans to run this tournament. I assume either she or Rohan will post here soon and clarify.

We've gotten no clear interest from anyone since we're sending Harvard A to Minnesota. I'll try once more to rouse some freshmen.

When I emailed Ylaine I was told that there were only 3 teams interested (I guess 2 Yale, 1 RPI) and that there was some issue with organization, neither of which is a very good sign.

Let's be clear - if there's any interest and at least a couple of MIT willing to read, we can make this happen. I'll handle whatever coordination MIT can't muster if need be. A lack of competitors, however, is a good reason to cancel. Who would still be in so long as there are at least 2-3 other teams and some rooms?

Yale would still send a team

I'll poll the populace to see if Brown would send the part of the team that's not going to the original site.

Mmkay. There are rooms (reserved by Grace), an available Katy-as-TD, and at least two "able to staff but not sure it's worth the effort" MIT team members. How badly do people want this? The only obstacle seems to be motivation.

Rich tells me that if we are going to cancel our zipcar for going to this to tournament, we have to do it by tomorrow. We'll wait to see if a field materializes before then, and if one does we'll gladly come, but if it's still just 2-3 teams registered, I think we'll have to cancel.

Sorry, everyone who isn't going to Minnesota is busy so you'd better count us out.

Uh, hey MIT, I'm talking with people about working out rides from bus stations to attend our mirror at Maryland, and they're still not sure if they're going to come because of the tragicomedy that is your handling of this event. Lord knows I've been in your position before, but on the off chance that it might result in someone not having their chance to play this set screwed, you really ought to post a definitive cancel/happening announcement.

I'm not MIT, but the conclusion of an email thread discussing staffing and feasibility died out with Chris Kennedy arguing "Punt it." I don't see any teams left listed in this thread as coming, so I've tentatively made study plans for Sat. I'd say it's dead.
