I selected June over January primarily because early January has generally seen rather crappy weather in my neck of the woods leading to travel delays at airports at the starts of the last few semesters. Since this tournament is trying to be national in character, it might be best to do it at a time we are not potentially at the mercy of the airline industry.

I'd definitely be interested in attending this tournament and/or writing for it, but my attendance would be based almost solely on where it's held. If it's within an hour or two's drive from Virginia/Maryland, then I will have a team, money, and packet ready before January. If it isn't, then I'd probably write a packet for kicks but I almost certainly won't be able to attend.

Some brief updates:

It looks like this tournament will be happening in June 2010, probably closer to the end of the month. I've had a brief conversation with Chris Ray about hosting this at Maryland and it seems like that might be a possibility, but nothing is confirmed yet. If any other school has a desire to host this, e-mail me at [email protected].

The current plan is to have this tournament be house written. The target number of rounds produced is 18.

If anyone who doesn't plan on playing in this tournament wants to help out with writing, please shoot me an e-mail at [email protected]. I am especially interested in people willing to write sports (and willing to get started right away).

The current distribution is:
4/4 Movies
4/4 TV
4/4 Music
4/4 Sports
1/1 Videogames
3/3 Other

I am considering knocking the TV distribution down to 3.5/3.5 or even 3/3, as it's proving a bit difficult to find good answer choices for older television in comparison to the other categories. If the TV distribution is reduced, the Other distribution will take up its questions.

A full announcement will probably come around September.

Dave Letzler informed me that he won't be able to produce as many questions as originally planned for this tournament, so we're still looking for some additional contributors, especially in the major sports (baseball, basketball and football) areas. However, pretty much all contributions from quality writers will be accepted at this time. Just shoot me an e-mail at [email protected].
