Announcement: Ferdinand Tönnies Memorial Trash Tournament
Re: Announcement: Ferdinand Tönnies Memorial Trash Tournament
If it helps the team situation any, I'll play instead of moderate if there isn't a shortage of moderators.

Assuming Lorin comes, I'll put him with a team that's short.Censorship in Burma wrote:If it helps the team situation any, I'll play instead of moderate if there isn't a shortage of moderators.
Auroni, I appreciate the offer. At this point, I'm not short on readers, I'm just trying to get a nice number of teams. Assuming I can stick Lorin with a team that's short, that puts us at 16, which would be splendid.
Also, staffers will be compensated via money for lunch.

Re: Announcement: Ferdinand Tönnies Memorial Trash Tournament
This afternoon, I was still unable to convince Arsalan Khan from my CO team to come back Sunday, and my TBD has not replied back to me. At this point, Hemant Mehta from my CO team remains my only committed trash teammate. Lorin Burte was my moderator at all six CBI Regionals, and Harry Sering was on my CO team three years ago. Auroni Gupta was my lit doubles partner in Minnesota; all would be especially welcome on my team should contraction be convenient like right before FICHTE 2, especially since the Expos and Twins were not contracted out of MLB.

Announcement for the tournament:
The tournament will be in Harper Hall. Registration will be in Rm. 130. Be there by 8:30.
Format: two brackets of 8, playoff brackets of 4. One-game final if needed, all other record ties broken by PPB. Standard format, no special trash rules.
If the timing works out, I'll put the lunch break after round 7.
If for some reason you need to get in touch, my cell is 217/493-4500. I'll be staffing/playing on Saturday, so I may not immediately answer.

Financial stuff:
Cash would be nice. If checks are written, make them out to Michael Arnold.

Due to the lateness of the end of CO proper, registration will begin at 9 with the tournament itself getting underway as close to 9:30 as possible. Enjoy your sleep, suckers!

I'm not sure on the mirroring situation, so I'll hold off talking specifically about this, but I'll just say it was very fun to play and this tournament did a fine job correcting some excesses in other trash tournaments (notably by refraining from asking about too many specific characters, and instead using, say, movies or TV series). Thanks for writing. Also, Evan Nagler pronounced me the "oldest person at this tournament," which I think is a bit of a stretch, but it sounds good to me.

Re: Announcement: Ferdinand Tönnies Memorial Trash Tournament
Greg Sorenson and His Discovery (Greg Sorenson et al) won the tournament, clearing the field by two games in the playoffs. Based on PPB, Three Delayed Tournaments in a Week (Weiner, Adams, Lafer, Kwartler) finished second. Top scorers were: Matt Weiner, Chris Vicich, Mike Cheyne, and Michael Kearney. I may be wrong on that fourth one, I'm not sure. Chris Borglum took the neg prize with 14 negs in the 7 prelim games.
I'll post something with more substance once I get back to Champaign-Urbana and finish entering the stats.

Re: Announcement: Ferdinand Tönnies Memorial Trash Tournament
This is true, my apologies.cornfused wrote:I believe this was actually Colby.dtaylor4 wrote:Michael Kearney. I may be wrong on that fourth one, I'm not sure.
First off, I would like to thank the staff that made this tournament run like clockwork: Mike Sorice, Michael Arnold, Jonah Greenthal, Sarah Angelo, Will Butler, SteveJon Guth, Jerry Vinokurov, Kristin Strey, Ahmad Ragab, Margo Emont, and Seth Teitler. Special thanks go to Bernadette Spencer and Joe Hanson, who offered to serve as a scrimmage team since the Michael Knapp team failed to materialize.
Prelim stats are up, as are playoffs.
Thanks also to the team of Sorice, Seal, Yaphe, and Arnold for producing what many lauded as an awesome set of questions.
