NAQT SCT...

Post by Maxwell Sniffingwell »

...is at St. Olaf for the North region. Does anyone know the other sites, particularly the Midwest? I couldn't find an announcement anywhere.

Worth noting that this list is not final:

"NAQT is still looking for hosts in the Northwest, Southwest (including Texas) and lower Midwest (Kansas/Missouri)."

According to R., an announcement with the Northwest host is expected in the near future.

Why hasn't someone from NAQT posted this here?

I'll guess "because this thread was already here before NAQT finished posting the list." Jerry: would you like me to start a separate official thread?

I just think that the primary forum for quizbowl discussion should have some official posts for announcements of quizbowl tournaments without people having to ask for them.

If it's any consolation, I made my post after receiving Hentzel's email about the St. Olaf site - and there's a decent chance that he sent that out as soon as he picked St. Olaf... that is, before the rest of the list was final.

In case it helps anyone plan: it looks strongly like the "lower Midwest" site NAQT is looking for is going to be Washington University in St. Louis. I'll be waiting for them to make the announcement for real, though.

Hi Jerry,

Technically it's because I followed the letter, rather than the spirit, of Dwight Kidder's request a couple nights ago, and thoughtlessly didn't look for an SCT thread on the Collegiate Discussion board.

More generally it's still true that NAQT doesn't represent itself here nearly as well as we ought to, and that there's a collective action problem where individual NAQT members each have good reasons for being busy (in my case, our firstborn child was born October 5) that still don't absolve the organization as a whole.

Jeff Hoppes has already contributed as much to this thread as I would have been able to. I plan to post at least sporadically over the next few weeks, as events and (SCT) threads warrant.

How is everyone in NAQT so busy that they can't take the 2 minutes it takes to copy the data from the NAQT website to this forum?

I'm just saying, someone already had to put that data on the NAQT website, that person might as well post it here too.

So, is anyone going to submit a bid to host in the Southwest region? I would prefer not to have to drive to St. Louis.
