Cancellation of ABD (from ACF Winter Midwest thread)

Post by alkrav112 »

(copied from ACF Winter Midwest thread):

Hi all -

I have just received word that the Ann B. Davis pop culture tournament (which is usually held the day following MLK/ACF Winter) has been cancelled for this and all foreseeable years.

We would still like to hold a trash tournament the following day as per tradition, so I would like to open this thread up to suggestions for such an event. I'm not sure if a house-edited tournament would be viable (especially at this late date), but I'm open to the idea, and I'm also open to running a side-event that is not necessarily pop-culture based.

One possible suggestion would be doing pop culture-related but smaller-scale events, along the lines of the recent RMPFest and Impossible Speedcheck, which just required toss-ups. If you end up doing something like this, I would be delighted to write toss-ups.

I have some videogame questions written for some to be determined tournament in the future. I'd write some sort of videogame tournament or something, but I don't know if there's interest in having more than one of those a year.

Maryland is looking for a trash tournament to pair with TIT this year, and could contribute some writers toward a collective effort if someone is willing to chief edit.

I could contribute a packet or two to this.

Are you guys going to have time to edit both tournaments, though? Last time we did TIT and a trash tournament things got really frantic at the end.

I would bring a team to this if this is a normal (not-themed) trash tournament.

I would definitely be interested in this, video game themed or otherwise. I could definitely write a handful of questions if necessary as well.

It's very likely JSR won't have the resources to run both ACF Winter and a trash tournament, so there's a good chance this hypothetical tournament would be available for someone else in the mid-Atlantic to host.

A few things:

*Penn has already announced a trash tournament for pairing with Penn Bowl on 1/25, (viewtopic.php?f=19&t=6777) so that should cover everyone's Mid-Atlantic January trash needs.

*The Sunday immediately following Terrapin is the day of the Super Bowl, so I highly doubt any sort of tournament hosted on that day will be successful.

*My suggestion is that Michigan or anyone else looking to host a trash event on 1/18 get in touch with Penn about the possibility of collaborating on/mirroring their thing.

So Michigan and Penn can you guys make this happen? UW would be more interested in hosting one of these two (academic) tournaments if there was an accompanying trash tournament.
