SCT Hosts (Crossposted from Yahoo)

Post by NoahMinkCHS »

NAQT has released their list of SCT hosts. I usually check this board, and not the Yahoo! group, so I had to be told by a teammate. For the benefit of others with similar tastes, the message was:
R. Robert Hentzel wrote:Players and Coaches --

NAQT is pleased to announce the first list of four-year hosts of
Sectional Championship Tournaments for 2008:

Canada (East): Carleton University
Mideast: Pittsburgh
Midwest: Chicago
Northeast: Brown
Northwest and Canada (West): UBC
South: John Paul II High School (in Dallas)
Southeast: Alabama
West: Berkeley

More information, including contact e-mails, is available here:

We are still looking for a host in the Virginia/North Carolina region;
if your school would like to host an SCT (and thereby receive an
automatic bid to the 2008 ICT!), please let us know.

If you have any questions about the upcoming SCTs, please don't
hesitate to contact us at naqt-at-naqt.com.

Is there no plan to have a "Southwest" regional in Oklahoma or Texas ? It seems like those teams are kind of getting left out as it is now.

You're kidding, right?

Since when is Dallas not part of Texas?

Hey, we all know that quizbowl has never changed so of course NAQT has no business posting here.

It's just their way of being passive-aggressive 'cause we're all so mean over here.

If we were so mean, why would we give each other presents and name it in a person's honor?

Somebody please do this, making the 6 1/2 hour drive to Pitt and spending the night would be lame (okay so perhaps we all have to feel the pain of CMU for once...). Return of GMU? I'm feelin it.

We will be driving 6 1/2 hours and spending the night in Chicago .... won't be too bad I guess.

However.... we will NOT be staying in the ghetto hotel we stayed in last time .... too many horror stories.

It was a Super 8 in Franklin Park. Amenities included were: blood-stained mattresses, used condoms behind the beds, and a hotel staff that refused to print out receipts for us.

Wow, that is bad. The Essex on Michigan Avenue is excellent; I stayed there with the Wehrmans for CO in 2002; it might be a bit pricey, though.

The Ramada Lake Shore Inn is pretty good on 47th. It's also real close to the college.

There's also a bunch of places by Midway Airport, which may be cheaper than the Ramada and are much closer than Franklin Park.

Haha another 11 round robin coming up? I don't see why some of the CBI Region 14 teams don't ever compete in this sectional...

According to NAQT's Web site, Dallas' John Paul II High School had to withdraw as an SCT host. No word yet on a replacement site.

Good grief, why did all the colleges less than five hours from UNC wait until my senior year to start hosting tournaments?

Seriously, though, that's cool.

We submitted a bid to host SCT back in October, but it was given to Chris Romero instead. If no other host could be found, we would be willing to host it, although that would make it three straight years that SCT were held at TU. I have been meaning to contact NAQT about it. Personally, I would like to see OU host SCT, since they have not done so since 2000.

My apologies if this update has already been announced or cross-posted elsewhere. This is from 12/21, I think ...
