Does anyone have any idea whether this is going down? Has Lujan or anyone else talked with Yaphe about it?

Are you actually going though, I mean not just say you're going, but actually going? We don't see you at any tournaments at all, and we
hope that you can actually come. From what I've heard, BASQUE is
happening, and so presumably is the science tourney.

Ray, or someone else ... can you post (preferably sans grouchiness) either the basic information about BASQUE or a link to that info? Sorry for the likely redundancy -- I couldn't find it in the announcements section. I don't think I'll be in California by then, but I'm still curious about the date & location.

I hope to come, and I have a team rounded up. It depends on whether we can find transportation up to Berkeley. The school has a van for clubs, but I need to see whether it is available. Renting a car is another option.

You might try emailing Paul Lujan directly. I think few Berkeley people have come to this forum as of late, but I'm pretty sure BASQUE is happening, if UCLA is to be believed.

since we have extra space in our car; I hope
you accept this offer. BASQUE is happening,
and the person you should email is Jeff Hoppes.
He's currently looking for interest in the auxilliary
tournaments.

Yes, it's going to happen and here's an actual announcement...

BASQUE, a mirror of the Chicago Open, will take place at Berkeley on
Saturday, July 29th. Please email me (jthoppes (at) berkeley (dot) edu) to
register.

The base fee will be $100. Teams that bring buzzers will receive a $10
discount. Packet submission is optional.

The field as it currently stands:

UCLA: 2 teams
Caltech: 1 team
Stanford: 1 team
Berkeley: 2 teams

Science Monstrosity will take place on Saturday evening following the CO
mirror.

Sunday following the tournament, some or all of the following may take
place, depending on interest: trash, history singles, and/or pop music
singles. If your team would be interested in any of these events, please
contact me if you have not done so already.

Registration will be at 9 am tomorrow in 118 Barrows. Play should begin around 9:30.

BASQUE 2006 took place today at Berkeley and will continue tomorrow.

Berkeley defeated Stanford 325-150 to win the Chicago Open mirror. The two teams split their matches during the double round robin. Third through fifth were Caltech and two UCLA teams, in some order I will determine when I dig out the scoresheets.

Paul Lujan went 6-0 to claim his title as King of Science Monstrosity West. The rest of the field:
Stanford A (4-2)
UCLA B (4-2)
UCLA A (3-3)
Caltech (2-4)
UCLA C (1-5)
Stanford B/UCSD (1-5)
