Hello all!!

East Tennessee Quizbowl is extremely proud to announce that we will be hosting the very popular and wildly entertaining Summer Mixed Open IV (SuMO) at Roane State Community College in Oak Ridge, TN on 6/30!!! Oak Ridge is an excellent location with it's close proximity to Knoxville, TN and it's excellent opportunities for adventure and entertainment. We will be sending out details and recommendations for accommodations that are convenient to the tournament site. We will also be posting a registration form in the next few days for the convenience of those who would like to compete.

For the uninitiated, SuMO has an innovative format where teams are composed of pairs of players who join forces with another randomly selected pair of players to compete against a highly competitive field. It makes for some very entertaining match ups.

Ohhh... and let's not forget...... THERE'S A CASH PRIZE!!! (More to come later on that)

The revenue generated from SuMO will be used for the benefit of High School and College programs in East Tennessee.

Fee structure and more pertinent information will be forthcoming in the very near future. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact us @ [email protected]

Any idea what packet this would be on? If it's not HSNCT, there's a good chance at least 5 Oak Ridge High School students will attend this.

Not sure if this is mentioned anywhere, but are individuals allowed to sign up for this? I'm open to finding teammates, as I'm planning on driving up to this from my internship in Atlanta this summer, but I don't know anyone in the area to play with me.

Alternatively, if anyone wants to pair up with me, I'd be very eager to talk!

Eric,

There will most likely be any number of free agents. Feel free to go ahead and reserve a spot in the field, and we'll do what we can to help you find a partner.

In light of recent events, we will not be using the SSNCT set for SuMO on 6/30. We have reached out to Case Western for permission to mirror GLRAC. We will let everyone know when we have a replacement set.

As of 6/8/18, SuMO will now be using SSNCT.

I notice that the original post includes neither a start time nor a registration fee. Could you please update this thread with that and any other important information? Thanks.

All information regarding fees can be found @

which if you'll look a few posts up was already listed along with our email address. We have been somewhat distracted lately with issues, now resolved, regarding a question set, so some other details had to be benched for a few days. We will post/email information regarding the schedule in the coming days. We have plenty of spots open, and with SSNCT now back on as our set we're looking forward to a great competition. Please feel free to register at the link and email us @ [email protected] if you have any other questions.

Regards,

J.D. Rollins

Actually, the registration form can be found here. It contains a lot of good information about the tournament as far as entry fees ($25/person before discounts), structure, and prizes are concerned, but it doesn't say the starting times.

We should plan to begin play at 9:00 am, but check-in will begin at 8:00 am, and we'll draw for teams around 8:30 am, I'd imagine.

Also, the current field can be seen here.

Not even going to try to do the full post after the fact because Brother Alday handled it on Facebook so well. Click through and read that first.

Super grateful for everybody who contributed today. From the moment this became a possibility, Dren wanted this tournament in Greater Knoxville, and badly. Very grateful to be able to help him make this tournament a reality. Grateful to all our staff - Breanna Wilson of UT (who once played for some guy named Rollins) is a spectacular reader, Alex Tabor is one of our regional leaders who loves the tournament day, and Sarah Whisenhunt makes me proud to have my Gate City shirt. Dylan Cox (alum) and Chyann Perry (sophomore!) also joined us from the Gate City community; Mark Lewis (possibly related to a certain top scorer) rounded out our scorekeeping staff. Timely assists in match reading were delivered by Seth Kendall and Eric Chang.

Congrats once again to all our winners. Congrats to our community.
