ACF Fall at Maryland (Nov. 5, 2016)

Post by sarangyeola »

Hello!

I am pleased to announce the Mid-Atlantic site of ACF Fall 2016, to be held at the University of Maryland on Saturday, 5 November 2016. ACF Fall is the year's premier introductory-level collegiate quizbowl tournament, and we do hope that you join us at this event.

The tournament will be hosted in Jimenez Hall. Registration will begin at 8:00am and will continue until the opening meeting at 8:30am. Rounds will start promptly after that. Because Virginia Tech will also be hosting a mirror in the Mid-Atlantic, I am inclined to keep the field small, so for now, I will set a soft cap of 12 teams.

Registration
Registration for this event has two steps:
First, please write to us at [email protected] with team name, number, and buzzer/staffer information.
Second, fill out the central ACF Fall registration form at this site with all relevant information.

Fees
ACF is currently debating a slight restructuring of its fee schedule. The final fee schedule will be announced by 1 September 2016. Teams can expect the base fee to increase by ~10%.

Packet Discounts/Penalties
Any team with at least two people on it who played a regular, collegiate, academic quizbowl tournament prior to September 1, 2015 is required to submit a packet. High school players are exempt from this definition, are not permitted to submit packets, and pay fees as determined by their site hosts.

Half-packet templates will be sent out to your team after you have submitted the registration form. If you have questions on the submission guidelines, email them to [email protected] and they’ll clarify.

Please submit packets to [email protected] and use “ACF Fall 2016: [Team Name]” in the subject line.

Submission schedule
The submission schedule is as follows:

11.59 PM PST September 10: -$30
11.59 PM PST September 24: -$15 (-$30 if optional)
11.59 PM PST October 8: no penalty (-$15 if optional)
11.59 PM PST October 15: +$25
11.59 PM PST October 22: +$50
After October 22: +$10/day until October 29; teams who are required to submit a packet and do not submit one by November 1 will not be allowed to play.

Payment
Payment for ACF Fall will be processed through the ACF treasurer, Gautam Kandlikar. He will get in touch with you about how much your team owes, how to pay for the tournament, etc. Please contact Gautam at [email protected] with any questions regarding payment.

For more information, refer to the Global Announcement of ACF Fall 2016 or email the editors at [email protected].

Congratulations to Maryland A for sweeping the Overall, UG, and DII titles and Delaware for sweeping the second place Overall, UG, and DII titles at Maryland's Mirror of ACF Fall!

I'd like to thank Logan Anbinder, Will Alston, Jonathan Magin, Andrew Lim, Bruce Arthur, Chris Heffner, Tommy Casalaspi, Evan Adams, Charles Tian, Matt Weiner, and Roey Hadar for taking time out of their Saturday to help staff this tournament. Additional thanks to MAQT members Jordan Brownstein, Ophir Lifshitz, Emma Stevens and Stephen Meyer.

Also, shout out to Dan Greenstein who dropped by out of the blue to moderate for one round.

EDIT: Playoff and combined stats are posted.
