MÖRE WEIGHT

I am playing the main event of the day (NASAT Mirror) with Lil' Aayushy (TM). But also:
With Aayush's tacit (yet vaguely disapproving) consent, I am announcing a guerrilla side event for this day, Mocking Eventacronymswhichare Really Execrable, Which Even I Got Hate Towards (MORE WEIGHT). The rules of MORE WEIGHT, which go to 11, are as follows:

1. Do Not Talk About MORE WEIGHT
2. Do Not Talk About MORE WEIGHT
3. Questions can be written in either English or French. Any other language, we'll use google translate and then read hilarity in English.
4. Writers should write 10 TUs, no Bonuses, for their QUESTION PACK
5. There is NO DISTRIBUTION and NO PRESCRIBED QUESTION LENGTH, but normal rules of "Good Quizbowl" such as Pyramidality and Differentiability Apply
6. Games of 10 TUs each are played shootout style (1 player one buzz) up to 4 negs; players can buzz twice but a 2nd neg is -10
7. The goal of the writer is to make the questions so difficult that no one can answer, necessitating an answerable 11th TB on metaquizbowl (Canadian meta!)
8. Questions must be on actual things, such that they would be expected to have a Wikipedia page. The goal is to find legitimate answer lines which will go dead; do NOT write on your pet, what you have in your pocket, an event only you were at, your bus stop, the Wikipedia page on Human-Goat Sex (now removed but always in our hearts), etc. Also do not write Byzantine answerlines (the style, not the period, Jay!) which are something along the lines of "Abandoned government-owned Coast Guard boats located in abandoned fishing villages in Newfoundland named after Queens" (Jay!). Nothing creepy, libel/slanderous/defamatory, uninclusive, or turning Steinbeck's masterpiece into some sort of monstrosity. Buffet questions optional.
9. NO MASHUPS! WE HATE MASHUPS!!! If you try to be funny, like Michael Servetus, and go to Geneva anyway, I will literally burn your questions at the stake (like Michael Servetus)
10. The event is free and guerrilla which means that it will likely last about one second before waking dreaming about flights of wasps around mangosteens (it won't take long)
11. There MAY be prizes

EDIT: This was split off from another thread; edited for context in first sentence.

Sadly, it is true. I did foolishly approve this, and so MORE WEIGHT will be happening following the NASAT mirror on Saturday. Get writing, people!

I'm very certain people would prefer my packet if I wrote about cool, illegitimate things like the CN tower collapse rather than 10 dull tossups on actual impossible things.

This way it's easier to follow the rules.

Touche. In addition to being an awesome tournament, it's also a paradoxical one.

For MERE/MOREWEIGHT, who/where do we send the completed packets to? Also, where do we draw the line between the legitimate and the ridiculous?

Okay, the least you could do is write that TU on Så mycket bättre instead! Like, that's the famous one!

Hi Mike, sounds great. Could you please split it off, so that the above discussion comes with it (and so I can quote-answer Peter's question, above)?

Hi Peter,
For a guerrilla tournament like this, you don't need to submit it to anyone first. Just bring it the day of (flash drive works best). Letting people know you're bringing one helps, though.

I am submitting a packet to this event. Most people will have heard of none of the answer lines, but that's okay.

Uninclusive in what sense? I can't imagine writing an all inclusive hard ass-set that will include the entire playing field.

If you could expect to see it at a mainstream tournament of amazingly high difficulty, do it. If you can see yourself mocked by the "quizbowl community" for writing it, and you think that the ridicule would be legitimate, then steer clear!

Also, although there is no distribution, the rounds are not intended to torture people. Please vary distribution at least a little bit; 10 questions on Norwegian tv shows (or 10 Norwegian anything TUs, really) are not banned but not recommended.

I mean nothing along the lines of insulting/denigrating people of a particular group/worldview, a la Modern World. Feel free to not include answerable questions, as that is the point.

I've completed my MORE WEIGHT pack; I can't send it to anybody, but I'm happy to do private readings for any interested (and non-attending at Waterloo's NASAT) parties.

I will take the zero responses as a no; if anyone wants to contribute a pack from the States (or a non-attendee pack), let me know.

So far we have 2 confirmed packets (mine and Joe's), with assumed packets from Aaron, Peter Cordeiro (man) and yourself. I have racially profiled Jay (quizbowler is a race, right?) for a grand total of 6.

I would therefore budget about 60 minutes for this.

Yeah, writing tossups that are specifically designed to be so hard that they go dead doesn't seem like my kind of thing, as is playing them (especially if it overlaps with Grames trash).

What does that emoticon even mean? It appears to be a capybara. Are capybaras (capybarae?) interfering with your writing? Nick, this looks like a golden opportunity to write 5 (we would love you to write a pack) and pair with Joe. E'rebody wins!

I can confirm that I'm working with Joe on a pack, and that we'll be the best tag team since the Mega Powers.

W00t, 9/10 of my questions were unanswered. Congrats to Brian M for knowing classical music pedagogy (though it was by far the easiest of my 10 questions; I'm sure JL and Jacob and Shan would have known some more)

We read 7 packets, by Jordan, Adam, Peter C., Rein, Joe, Paul (Google Translated from Polish), and Derek (not actually MOREWEIGHT, since the questions were hard but not impossible visual art).

Here are the results (10/-5/-10 total):

Derek 4/0/0 40

Erik 4/2/0 30

Jay 3/1/0 25
Peter L. 3/1/0 25

Aidan 2/0/0 20

Benzene 2/1/0 15

Brian L. 1/0/0 10
Faith 1/0/0 10
Peter C. 1/0/0 10

Brian M. 1/1/0 5
Jordan 1/1/0 5
Sebastian 1/1/0 5

Aaron 0/1/0 -5
Aayush 0/1/0 -5
Luka 0/1/0 -5

Rein 1/3/1 -15

Just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to all of our pack writers, Adam Swift, Rein Otsason, Peter Cordeiro, Paul Kasinski (whose pack was awesomely Google-translated from Polish "In 10 points, replace"), Joe Su, and Derek So. The packets were well-written and very enjoyable! Thanks also to Brian McNamara for reading Paul's pack and to Ming-Ho Yee for tirelessly (when anyone else would have been very tired) recording the scores.

Congrats to the people who "won," and hope to see you all at what one participant urged should be "EVEN MORE WEIGHT"!

This was significantly more fun than I was expecting it to be. I would like to thank especially Peter Cordeiro for his packet, and not Joe Su, who keeps going out of his way to remind me about that one time I confused Carl Orff with Hans Zimmer.

I don't have any, other than my own (and Paul's, but I don't have his permission to disseminate it). If people send them to me and consent I would gladly post them, or alternatively they can post them here themselves.
