I hate to play the phrasing Nazi here, but since this is one of my pet peeves, and this phrasing is becoming ubiquitous, this should read "closed to all except for teams of undergraduate students representing the same post-secondary/collegiate institute/etc." (depending on what the restrictions are). The above-quoted phrase implies that the tournament is closed to, aka inaccessible for, properly constituted teams.

Posting in this thread counts as registering, but if you'd like some confirmation, you can email me.

As an update, we've got rooms booked in our usual location, the Mathematics and Computer building (MC). More details to follow when we know the exact number of teams attending.

This is also a reminder to register if you haven't already done so. Please post in this thread or send me an email -- verbal "registrations" don't count. The same goes for buzzer sets and readers. Please let me know!

A three-man team is coming from Western.

Edit: Make that a full team.

This puts our field at 11 teams. Unless a twelfth team registers at the last minute (and I'm not expecting any), I will merge our house teams to bring the field down to 10. Any team that wants to register at the last minute must do so by 6PM EDT tomorrow (Friday March 20). I am also capping the field to 12 teams.

Tournament headquarters will be MC 4045. Please meet at 8:30 AM for registration. We will start games no later than 9:00 AM.

Tomorrow evening, I'll post/email more details regarding parking, food, schedule, etc.

I may or may not be playing this solo. I'll edit this post once I know if I'm going for sure.

UPDATE: I will be going as a one-person team. (You can count me as the Michigan team)

Copied (and edited) from my logistics email.
I wrote:With 12 teams, I expect to run a full round robin, so everybody gets to play 11 games. Also, I believe this is one of the largest fields we've hosted, so thank you all for your interest!

Again, tournament headquarters will be in MC 4045, with games beginning no later than 9:00 AM. Therefore, please meet at 8:30 AM for registration.

The university website has directions for getting to campus, as well as a map. You can park for free in Lot X (north end of campus by OPT) or certain lots in the colleges (west end of campus by REN, STP, and CGR). See here for more information about the college lots.

The most convenient place for food is the "University Shops Plaza," which is right beside campus. The on-campus food services are very limited on weekends.

If anything comes up on Sunday morning and you need to call me, my number is [removed]. If you'd like to, you can reply with your numbers.

Also, if you happen to know your team rosters, feel free to send them to me, so I can put them into SQBS ahead of time.

Please let me know if there's anything I've missed, or if there are any questions.

Thanks,
Ming-Ho

After the round robin, Michigan State A and Waterloo A were both tied at 10-1. Waterloo defeated Michigan State in a one-game final to win the tournament. Kenji (Michigan) was the top scorer. Congratulations!

Stats for all games can be found here. Please let me know if there are any mistakes; I will also hold onto the scoresheets for around a month.

A big thank you to the club exec (Aayush, Christine, and Faith) for handling all the administrative details and our staffers (Aaron, Arjun, Ben, Christine, Faith, Jenn, and Kira) for reading and scorekeeping. And of course, thank you to all the teams and players who showed up -- this is probably one of the biggest fields we've hosted. I hope you all had fun!

Finally, special thanks to Ben Zhang and Joe Nutter, who answered my questions on IRC about resolving a three-way circle-of-death. Thank you for your prompt responses! (The circle-of-death managed to resolve itself, by the way.)

Mad props and big ups to Ming-Ho for directing the tournament perfectly. I'm so impressed that we were able to have such a large field and still end at a reasonable hour.

Big ups to Ming-Ho for TDing one of the best run tournaments I've been to. It was a tight run ship from start to finish and it made the day so much better. As always, thanks to the staffers and the other teams for also contributing to such a good tournament!

A bit delayed, but thanks to all the teams that attended, especially those that traveled a fair distance to play this tournament. We hope you had an enjoyable time.

Major thanks to Ming-Ho Yee, who truly ran one of the finest tournaments I've ever attended. An incredibly well-done job!
