Unless Jeff has already assembled a pandemonium of trained parrots to moderate for this event, I will staff it.

Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to staff! I'll sort out a staff plan after HSNCT.

If there are any free agents (or Jerry's team) that want to team up with me and Ryan, please email/pm me.

Should we not power mark submissions?

Also, what is the cost of this event?

I'll add the power marks, so I would prefer that submissions not be powermarked.

The tournament will be free to anyone who submits a packet. If for whatever reason we end up with teams playing who didn't submit questions, I will work out a suitable fee schedule with those hypothetical teams.

Dan Puma has dropped out, so our team needs someone to join us.

EDIT: It might be Jason Asher.
EDIT AGAIN: It is!

Done. Now would be a good time for the free agents and partial teams to get things sorted out for packet writing.

With only two packets in and the deadline tomorrow, is there a contingency plan? I'm wondering if people are concerned about a time crunch in being able to play this and still make flights/departures.

For the moment, I have assumed that "the audience for this tournament consists of quizbowlers, and thus loves leaving things to the last possible minute." Should we still have a very low number of packets on Thursday morning, I will work on a contingency plan at that point.

My team will be submitting a packet, although it may be late due to my poor time-management skills.

I am, for the first time, the person holding up our packet, but it'll be done by tonight, definitely.

Since there are now only 10 teams, is there going to be a change in format from what's previously been stated, or will this just be figured out at a later date?

We're sticking with 11-team round robin (because the combination of 10 teams and packet submission is a pain to schedule).

Which makes this post a call for free agents:

Players wishing to join Team 11 should contact me. Anyone who writes six tossups by Wednesday night can play for free; otherwise, $10 per person (which was the fee for last year's non-submission CO History).

I assume we're counting on people who aren't playing to staff this thing. A lot of people may be heading out in the evening, though, so that should probably be arranged ahead of time. We have Ashvin, Jeff, Shan, and John so presumably we only need one more staffer.

If you still need staff, I can help (assuming this isn't supposed to go super late into the evening?).

Shan needs to leave before the conclusion of this tournament, so my current staff list is: John, Ashvin, Andrew. That leaves two more rooms to be staffed by the bye team.

Are you yourself going to be present, Jeff? If not, who is going to be "on-site TD"?

I will not be present in person. Joe Su has graciously agreed to be the on-site TD. (I will of course be available by phone and email to resolve protests.)

The best way for protest resolution is probably for the moderator or scorekeeper to email Jeff directly after any round with a game changing protest. This probably won't add more than a minute to each round compared to writing the protest down on a sheet of paper.

Same goes for the history tournament!

Thanks to my teammates for putting up with me at this tournament. I had a great time and the guerilla style ended up a lot more enjoyable and entertaining than I had anticipated. Thanks to everyone else for submitting a bunch of classics content that I was good at, too!

From what I hear, no, because it will be read online at some point.

There was a significant amount of interest in the irc, both from players who were unable to attend CO weekend and from players who had to leave early (so didn't hear the entire set).

So, I'll be reading the set in the irc starting Tuesday; expect about two packets per day at 7 Pacific/10 Eastern.

I'll start a new thread for question-specific discussion (with a warning for people who are planning to visit the irc).

My thanks to everyone who helped make this year's CO History possible:

-Joe Su, for volunteering to direct the tournament

-The moderating team: Rob Carson, John Lawrence, Andrew Nadig, Ramapriya Rangaraju, and Ashvin Srivatsa

-Larissa Kelly, for playtesting and contributing to the editors packets

-Most importantly, the teams who wrote questions for this event. I was very pleased with the high quality of the submissions for this year's CO History; I'll have more to say in the specific discussion thread.

Final stats are up.

After the round robin, there was one team at 8-2 and two at 7-3. Foolishly, I read the main CO thread's finals scenarios and was set off to follow that until Rama pointed out to me that the tiebreakers file probably wasn't a full packet. The two 7-3 teams were given the choice of reading the first 10 blind questions of the tiebreakers to see who played in the finals, or just use a statistical tiebreaker. A statistical tiebreaker was chosen, giving Team 7 the edge over Team 5, and the 7-3 Team 7 defeated the 8-2 Team 1 in both games of the final to win the tournament.
