SUBMIT Global Announcement

Post by Brian McPeak »

This is the official announcement for the Submission-Utilizing Berkeley/Maryland Invitational Tournament. This event will be a packet submission tournament aiming to be roughly the same difficulty as last year's TIT and WIT. We'd like to run mirrors in late January and the first weekend in February.

Our packet submission requirements are the same as that of ACF: "Any team with at least one person on it who played a regular, collegiate, academic quizbowl tournament (either as a college student or as a high school student) prior to September 1, 2012 is required to submit a packet."

Editors

Head Editor: Brian McPeak
Co-Editors:
Tanay Kothari and Ankit Aggarwal from Berkeley
Chris Manners, Arun Chonai, Dan Puma, and Isaac Hirsch from UMD (primarily-- other UMD players will contribute).

Mirrors

We are looking for mirrors and will keep a running list in this thread.
If you're interested, contact Tanay Kothari at tanay (dot) kothari (at) gmail (dot) com

Berkeley is in the Pacific Northwest now, eh?

In any event, if Berkeley could post an announcement (or at least confirm a date) ASAP, that would be awesome, as I think we'll try to attend their mirror. (I don't suppose Chicago is going to fly out for that tournament again?)

We still have to resolve that because of conflicts with other events. It might happen as early as January 25 or as late as May 3.

Will there be discounts for teams submitting packets when they don't need to?

I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, but email Brian at bmcpeak (at) terpmail (dot) umd (dot) edu and you'll get a definitive answer.

Sure, that'd be good to know.

Also, are you guys implementing anything along the lines of a length cap? One of the big differences between WIT and Terrapin last year was question length (Terrapin had some 8-and-9 line long questions, WIT's were hard-capped at 7 lines), and I was wondering if you guys made any particular decision about that.

Does the full list of sites at this point consist of Brown, Maryland, Berkeley, and MSU? Or have others been added?

Louisville will be sending a team to the mirror at Southeast Missouri State on February 1, and based on Tanay's earlier post it looks like there will also be a UK mirror.

Since Northeastern's teams (both A and B) weren't required to submit a packet, will it still be a $50 discount for each of our teams?

Updated the packet list. Tanay's handling the mirrors and he said that the list was current as of a little more than a week ago. I'll ask him to post about the current status.
