Packet Submission
As per the ACF submission rules, any team with at least one person on it who played a regular, collegiate, academic quizbowl tournament prior to September 1, 2012 is required to submit a packet in order to participate in an ACF tournament in 2013-2014. This includes ACF Fall. Teams required to submit packets who do not submit one by the final deadline will be dropped from the tournament. As of a recent rule change, high school players are now included in this definition and are subject to the same discounts and penalties as college teams. (For more on high school teams, please see below.) Please submit packets to the same Gmail account, "acf.fall.2013", and use “ACF Fall 2013: [Team Name]” in the subject line.

Fees:

Base fee: $120 for one team from a school, $240 for two teams from a school, etc.
Buzzer systems: -$5 each No discount for broken buzzers; no maximum.
Staffers: -$10 each No maximum.
Laptop: -$5 each Maximum 1 per team.
Travel: -$10 per 200 miles traveled one way
International: -$20
For teams representing schools located in a different country than the tournament host.
New ACF teams: -$25
For schools who did not send a team to ACF Fall, Regionals, or Nationals between September 2011 and August 2013, and have no one on the team(s) claiming this discount who played those tournaments for another school.
New quizbowl teams: -$75
For schools who did not send a team to any regular collegiate academic tournament since September 2011, and have no one on the team(s) claiming this discount who played those tournaments for another school. May be combined with new ACF team discount for a total new-team discount of $100.

This year’s submission schedule is:

Packet submitted before 11:59 PM eastern time on:
September 8, 2013: -$50
September 22, 2013: -$25 (-$50 for teams not required to submit packets)
October 6, 2013: No penalty (-$25 for teams not required to submit packets)
October 13, 2013: +$25
October 20, 2013: +$50
After Oct. 20, 2013: The editors may grant one or more 24-hour extensions at an additional penalty of $10 per day.

Packet Penalties
Teams will incur penalties for the following offenses:
*Incorrect formatting: Please take a moment to review the ACF Packet Guidelines on formatting to make sure you format your packet correctly.
*Plagiarism: Please do not attempt to plagiarize. It is often very easy to catch. People caught plagiarizing will be subject to large fines and public shaming.
*Writing specific types of forbidden questions: Types of questions prohibited at ACF events include spelling questions, binary matching bonuses, and 5-10-15 bonuses.

Note Regarding High School Teams
High school teams are welcome to play this tournament, though they should keep in mind that while this may be a lower difficulty tournament, it is nevertheless a collegiate event and significantly more difficult than many high school tournaments. There will be no further discounts for things like playing short-handed or being new to ACF or quizbowl, which applies only to new college teams. Furthermore, high school teams must write a packet if any of its members played a college tournament prior to the 2012-2013 competition season.

I have updated the field with a list of teams that have told me, via email, that they are attending this mirror of ACF Fall. If your team is not listed and you have filled out ACF's registration form, then I suggest that you email me so that I too know that you are coming.

Additionally, due to an oversight, this mirror of ACF Fall is currently scheduled on the same day as UVA's home football game against Clemson. Since this is the case, it will be much easier for us to host this tournament on 11/3, pending ACF approval. If you are registered for this tournament and have not informed me about if this change will affect your attendance, then please let me know immediately.

We're running a high school tournament with VCU at New Kent HS the next weekend. According to what Daniel told me, only two schools had to drop because of the changed date (which had to happen after the rest of the schedule had been set down here because UVA switched a home game from 11/16 to 11/2 after the football schedule had been announced and taken into account; it is physically impossible to park anywhere near campus on game days). We apologize for any inconvenience caused by that rather obnoxious football change happening.

Unfortunately, moving the tournament again to a different date will not happen, barring odd and completely unforeseen circumstances. I apologize if this inconveniences a team and urge them to consider attending anyway.

I expect Daniel will send out an email later in the week with more detailed specifics on when and where to meet, but the tournament is taking place in New Cabell Hall. Here are the parking directions for that building I use for our hs tournaments.

Parking: There is a decent-sized parking lot quite close to New Cabell. An address you can plug into a GPS that will get you close to this lot is 400 Brandon Avenue, Charlottesville, VA. That address is for the Elson Student Health Center, which will be on your left as you turn onto Brandon from Jefferson Park Avenue. Student Health also has a parking lot but threatens to tow without a UVA permit. The lot I suggest is past Student Health on Brandon Ave and will be on the right. Once you've parked, New Cabell Hall is the very large building across Jefferson Park Avenue. If you cross the street at JPA and Brandon, turn left and walk up the ramp or stairs to the side door of the building, which will put you on the first floor on the right side of the building. Both stairs and an elevator are accessible from this entrance, though currently the elevator on that side of the building is out of service and you'd have to cross over to the west elevator.

UNC A finished second in both the main field and the UG field. They were the highest placing DII team
Delaware A finished second in the DII field.
