I'm coming to this. I''ll possibly be teaming with Jake Sundberg, whose status is up in the air.

We're looking for teammates, though I can join a team of three if Jake doesn't attend.

Hello everyone. I'm directing this tournament, so it'd be great if teams emailed me confirmations as to whether or not you will attend
(my email is [email protected]) so that I could get some kind of count and reserve rooms accordingly. Thanks a lot!

Loyola Academy cannot attend this tournament anymore due to the recent reinterpretation of IHSA rules that just happened this week. Pretty much sucks.

Forgive the digression, but I'll never understand why some high school athletic associations take jurisdiction over school clubs. Rules that make sense for a football team wouldn't necessarily make sense for a quiz bowl team. This is one example.

Allow me to put on my economist hat for a moment (it's an enormous, flowered number modeled after Gainsborough's portrait of the Duchess of Devonshire).

It's not even slightly surprising that the anti-competitive practices of collegiate athletics would filter down to high school in these days of monopsony run wild. The fact that (I'm guessing) there's less money behind high school quizbowl than high school football doesn't at all detract from the greed of some child exploitation organizations to vacuum up any money they can get their hands on.

Greg already informed Connie of this, but we might as well get this field listing updated as well--Greg is teaming up with me and Selene.

Pending approval by Mike Bentley, I am replacing Rob as one of the teammates of Dr. Vinokurov. I hope this tournament is up to the standard of Marshall's Facebook posts in terms of entertainment.

People with cars who could help us get to the tournament would be most appreciated (or alternatively to/from the airport, although if we book a hotel close to the airport that's not as big a deal).

How's the set coming? Is there a need for any emergency last minute packets?

By the way, if anyone could pick Mike Cheyne and I up (and drop us back off after the tournament) from the O'Hare area on Saturday, that would be much appreciated.

Are there any side events for this? Will we be too destroyed by this tournament to even care about more quizbowl?

If somebody randomly wants to play this tournament but doesn't have a team, our team may have a spot open. Send me a PM or email if you're interested.

No side events. I didn't think about room availability, but if you want to play something I don't see why not. I **think** the rooms are reserved "all day," whatever that means.

When/where is registration?

Hi everyone. The tournament will take place in Harper Memorial Library, which is on the south end of our main quad. Registration begins at 8:30 in Harper 130, and the tournament will begin promptly at 9:00. Here's a link to a map of campus: http://maps.uchicago.edu/campus.shtml

Parking... like so: http://maps.uchicago.edu/directions/parking/

Lunch options: There are quite a few places you can possibly go. There are some restaurants on 57th, 55th, and 53rd Streets, but the most convenient place to go is Hutchinson Commons, which has a food court with some pretty good options there. I can also give people some delivery numbers if they'd like that instead.

Again, if you are planning on playing this tournament, please please please email me (preferably within the next couple of days). Also email me if your team can't make it. This will make it easier on me for scheduling. My email address is [email protected]. My phone number is 770-295-8833 in case you have any problems finding things the day of the tournament.

Thanks everyone,
Connie

Field Update:
So far, I have these teams confirmed for the tournament:

Greg Peterson/Seth Teitler/Selene Koo

Michigan: 1, 3 buzzers
Illinois: 2, 3 buzzers
Ryan Westbrook/Matt Lafer
Winklewang
WKU: 1 buzzer
House: 2

BTW, we're good on buzzers.

I remain a free agent for this house-written Chicago-style open. I will be wearing my R. Westbrook #90 Spirit of Daytona 50th Anniversary Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona shirt.

If I could find someone to help me carry a TV from my backseat to my desk, then I can give rides for 1-4 people. Late-night CTA els remind me of Urinetown: The Musical.

Simultaneously, the final game of the Oxford Intercollegiate Quiz produced 11 combined negs. Perhaps it is a bad day for everybody?

I'm really enjoying the aesthetic of the win-loss records. Each team beat all of the teams ranked lower than it and lost to all of the teams ranked ahead of them.

Not only that, but the PPB of the teams is strictly decreasing.
