MSU Academic Competition Club is proud to announce our mirror of this year's Early Autumn Collegiate Novice Tournament, taking place on October 1, 2011. This tournament is meant to serve as an introduction to collegiate quizbowl for entirely new players or teams with less experience in the college game, using length-restricted easier questions.

To register, either post in this topic or email us at [email protected]. Registration is only considered official if you specify the number of teams and buzzer sets you will be bringing (a player count is preferred as well, but not necessary). Feel free to contact us with other questions regarding the event as well.

Location and Time
The tournament will take place on Michigan State's campus in East Lansing, MI, most likely in Wells Hall. Teams should arrive for registration between 9:15 and 9:45, as we plan to start matches at 10:00. Each team will play at least seven games with a lunch break, though the exact format and schedule of the tournament depends on the field size.

Fees and Discounts
Per player: $15
Per functional buzzer system: -$5
Minimum per player: $5

Eligibility
1. All ACF eligibility rules apply, except when they contradict the rules below.

2. This is a tournament for introducing collegiate novices to quizbowl. Consequently, no high school teams or players are eligible.

3. Anyone (who does not break Rules 1 or 2) who has never played quizbowl before is automatically eligible. Other academic competition does not count as quizbowl for this rule.

4. Players meeting one or more of the following criteria must apply to the head editor for special permission to play:

i. If you have already completed your second year of college (calculated from time in college, not credits). Time in a post-secondary high school program does not count.

ii. If you were ever on a playoff or top-bracket team at NAQT HSNCT or PACE NSC.

iii. If you have ever scored at least 30 points per game at any college tournament.

iv. If you have ever won any college tournament.

5. Anyone who does not fall into any of the four categories listed in Rule 4 is automatically eligible to play.
If you have any eligibility questions or appeals, please speak with Andrew Hart ([email protected]).

Thanks to Yale/UCLA for announcement formatting.

We hope to see you on the 1st!

Mark Bogner

Bryan and I will both come to moderate. I think that may be it (moderator-wise) for Michigan.

Case is in the process of putting together a team for this. We should know for sure within the next week.

Awesome, we look forward to seeing you and everyone. Any other schools who haven't emailed us or posted here, please let us know ASAP that you are coming.

There's a chance that I'll be there to moderate, but I'll know for sure by next week.

Okay, so I'll definitely be there to moderate this weekend. I'm not sure if Case is sending anymore staffers, but I'll be there for sure.

We will also have at least one team, but I don't want to jump the gun before Steven or Drew have confirmed.

We are probably going to bring 2 teams to this. If we expand to a third team, I will post here late tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks Bryan. Everyone is in the same situation, because this tournament is mostly freshmen. Just email us, or post here when you know what's going on.

OK, barring any catastrophic events, Case will be bringing 1 team, with 1 reader and another who would prefer to shadow the team but could read if absolutely necessary. Also, pretty sure we have 2 working buzzers.

EDIT: OK, goddamn it, now it looks like we probably have 6 (in which case we'd like to do 2 teams of 3), but Matt or I will keep you updated once we're sure. Sorry for the confusion.

OSU will be bringing 2 teams with anywhere from 0-2 moderators depending on what Joe Wells and I feel like doing.

Sorry to do this, but we won't be able to bring any of our buzzers. We accidentally left them in a car which is now in Indianapolis.

Top Finishers:

Notre Dame
Bowling Green
Michigan State
Ohio State B

Now that football is at halftime, I'll get around to uploading all the stats.

Kudos to Michigan State for hosting this. Our freshmen enjoyed themselves and the tournament was well-run.

Also, 10 AM start times are awesome.

The real credit needs to go to the writers (for an exceptional set), and the drivers.

Yeah, thanks for hosting this and for setting the start time at 10AM, MSU. Our Novices enjoyed themselves a lot and we didn't have to leave until 5AM.
