The Quizbowl Resource Center

Texas Quiz Bowl and Rice University is hosting Sectionals for Region 12 (Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas) on Saturday, February 5th, 2011. I, Chris Romero(romeroc-at-gmail.com), will serve as the hosting coordinator for this event and I will be working with Joel Gluskin, Eric Kwartler, and Rice University on this event.

FORMAT:
We will be playing timed twenty minute rounds on NAQT SCT packets.

ELIGIBILITY:
The tournament will probably be divided, as in the past, into two divisions with Division II designed for newer players. Please check the NAQT site regarding Division II eligibility rules: http://www.naqt.com/college/division-ii.html

PRICING STRUCTURE:
Team Discounts
Base fee = $120 for the first team from a school, $100 for every subsequent team
-$30 per moderator or staff member
-$10 for a fully-functional buzzer system (Must have four working buzzers on both sides)
-$30 New School Discount
-$5 for a functional clock
Minimum fee per team = $50

SCHEDULE:
Registration will be from 9:00-9:30 AM. We plan to have the first match start by 9:45 AM.

Tulane is interested in attending.

Just an FYI for this region: Most active teams in Arkansas are actually closer to the Region 11 site at Missouri State. I have Harding already registered and UALR in the works. In addition, teams from Oklahoma who traditionally attend "Southern" sites of tournaments are also always welcome to attend at MSU, since all of Oklahoma is in Region 11.

Most importantly, note that I'm not trying to steal away teams: Please attend the Rice site if it is more convenient for you!

TAMU will be sending at least one team. We're looking into seeing if we can form a second team.

As you stated, registration begins at 9 and matches at 9:45. Matches will be held in Rayzor Hall, which is located on the Academic Quad. A map of campus can be found here:

Teams should park in the Founder's Court visitor lot next to the main entrance located on Main.

The Region 12 SCT is complete. It was a four-team combined field tournament. The format was a triple round robin followed by a 1vs2 and 3vs4 game in Round 10.

Final Results
1. Texas A&M (Div I): 10-0
2. Rice (Div I): 6-4
3. LSU A (Div II): 4-6
4. LSU B (Div II): 0-10


Thank you to all teams for attending the event. Additional thanks go to LSU for braving the ice storm that hit the South to make it to the event along with agreeing to split into two teams at the last minute to avoid a 10-round head-to-head series between Texas A&M and LSU. Also, thank you to Rice for forming a house team (to the same effect).
