The Quizbowl Resource Center

This is an announcement for Waterloo's mirror of THUNDER II on Saturday, January 15, 2011, starting at 9:00 am. The main event will be followed by Harry Potter trash and a visual arts tournament (see below).


FEES
Base fee for first team: $100
Fee for subsequent teams: $10 lower for each team (ie, $100 + $90 + $80 for three teams)
Competent Moderator: -$10 each
Functional Buzzer: -$10 each
Distance: -$10 for greater than 200 miles traveled
High Schools: -$25
New to Quizbowl: - $50
Shorthanded: -$5 per missing player

REGISTRATION
Send me an email at hzafar at uwaterloo dot ca, or post in this thread. Please let me know how many staff/buzzer sets you can bring as well.

LOCATION
The tournament will take place on the fourth floor of the Math and Computer Studies building ("MC" on this map). Registration will take place in room MC4045.

SIDE EVENTS
We will be playing Harry Potter trash as well as Eyes That Do Not See II after this tournament. Probably, we will run the events simultaneously to save time, unless there are many objections. The format will be shootout for both events, but, again, this is subject to change if people have other preferences.

Tentatively put RIT down for 1 team. I should be able to confirm yes or no by 12/15 or so.

I think it's unlikely that: A) Lisgar will come, since this is close to our exams, and Cdn. uni apps; and B) Lisgar can beat Toronto at THUNDER (though at last year's THUNDER mirror, I think Lisgar won a game against an underpowered McMaster A)

Though playing the Harry Potter theme set would be awesome, Lisgar'll probably not have enough time for this. Unless we use Time Turners...

Mac will probably be sending a team or two.

Ottawa will probably have a team for this.

The Illinois mirror was right before our finals week, but we still want to play this set! Put Ohio State down for one team.

I have updated location information in the first post. Could everyone who has so far indicated an interest in coming to this please send me an email (hzafar at uwaterloo dot ca) to confirm numbers in terms of teams, buzzers, and staff (if any) that you are bringing? If you could do this sometime in the next couple of weeks, that would be cool.

Just wanted to say thanks to all the UWaterloo people and all the readers and staff who made this a very enjoyable tournament. Congratulations to The OSU as well!

Apparently Eyes that do not See was canceled?

Thank you to everyone who came out to play and to staff this. Congratulations to Ohio State A for their first place THUNDER II finish, and to Radu Popescu for his impressive performance in the HP event. Sadly, we did not have time to run Eyes That Do Not See II, but the stats for the other events are posted above.
