UCLA Mirror of Minnesota Open (Nov. 21)
Posted: Fri Oct 22, 2010 8:49 pm
The UCLA College Bowl Club is pleased to announce its (second annual) mirror of Minnesota Open.
DATE: The tournament will be held on Sunday, November 21, 2010, with HQ in Bunche Hall 3143.
FORMAT: The tournament will be mirroring the Minnesota Open. Please refer to the original announcement (viewtopic.php?f=8&t=10203) for more precise information on tournament difficulty and format.
ELIGIBILITY: This tournament is open to all teams. We will attempt to match free agents up if requested.
PRICING STRUCTURE:
Base fee = $100
-$5 for a fully-functional buzzer system (must have at least four working buzzers on both sides)
-$10 for additional teams from a school (non-cumulative)
-$10 for travel over 350 miles as measured by Google Maps
Minimum fee = $60/team average (possible only with multiple moderators)
If your program cannot afford to register, please contact the TD and we will try to make arrangements to accommodate your needs.
Please make checks payable to "College Bowl Club of UCLA." Please do not make a check out to any other person or entity, including "UCLA Quiz Bowl," as we cannot cash those checks. Please bring your check with you to the event. If you will need an invoice made, please contact Ian before the tournament. All teams will be given receipts.
The tournament director is Mik Larsen. If you are interested in attending, please e-mail me at mlarsen-at-ucla.edu with the following information:
1) Your school's (or team's) name
2) Representative's name and e-mail address, plus a phone number in case we need to track you down
3) The number of teams you are bringing
4) The number of buzzer systems and/or moderators you would like to bring
Updates about the tournament will be posted on the hsquizbowl.org forums in this thread.
If you have any questions about any of this, shoot me an email.
We plan to start the tournament at 9:00 am, although events may intervene. Location will be on the third floor of the Bunche Hall atrium section. We will provide a light but not necessarily balanced breakfast.
Allot yourself time to park and walk - you can expect to pay $10 for an all-day parking pass for a single car to park on UCLA's campus, although more intrepid quizbowlers may be able to find cheaper arrangements.
The following side tournaments have been acquired: Bruce Arthur's Wild Kingdom ($5 per person, plus perhaps a miniscule gratuity), Mike Cheyne's Mashup (50 cents per), VAIN (free), Julius Civilis Classics (free). The current plan is to play them simultaneously in different rooms after the main tournament has ended.
Attending:
USCD - 1 team
UCI - 1 team (Amorphous)
Caltech - 1 team
UCLA - At least one team.
Berkeley - 1 team
