EFT at the University of Minnesota (10.16.2010)

Post by Auks Ran Ova » Tue Sep 28, 2010 11:57 pm

This is the general announcement for the University of Minnesota mirror of this year's Early Fall Tournament (EFT), which will be held on October 16th, 2010. For more information on the general nature of EFT, please see the official EFT 5 announcement thread.

Fees:*
Base fee - $100 per team
Buzzer discount - $5 per buzzer (no limit)
Staffer discount - $10 per staffer (no limit)**
Travel discount - $10 per 200 miles travelled (one-way)

To get a discount, buzzers must actually work for the purpose of a normal quizbowl game; that is, they must have eight working activators, a working control box, and either a working power cord or a fresh battery, as applicable. Don't waste everyone's time bringing broken buzzers to the tournament. That's actually worse than bringing no buzzers at all! Don't bring broken staffers either.

* Any other potential discounts should be discussed with the TD and will decided on a case-by-case basis.

** Due to the likely-small field size of this tournament and the fact that a number of Minnesota players will have already played the questions, we'll likely have sufficient staff for this tournament, but if you do bring someone willing to staff, you'll definitely receive the discount. One can never have too many staffers.

Registrations:
To register, please e-mail both Rob Carson at cars0090 at umn dot edu and the UMN quizbowl team at [email protected] with the number of teams, buzzers and staffers you plan to bring, along with an e-mail address where you can contacted with details.

Location/Directions/Parking:
This tournament is being held on the 3rd floor of Coffman Memorial Union, on the East Bank campus. For GPS purposes, Coffman's address is 300 Washington Avenue SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455. Be aware that construction on and around Washington Avenue may make a hash of the area and/or make it inconvenient to access the nearest parking garage (the East River Road garage, located behind and below Coffman). More information about on-campus parking (sadly, non-Sunday free parking is extremely limited) can be found here.

Times:
Registration will run from 8:30 to 9:00, with the goal of starting Round 1 as soon as possible after 9:15.

Format:
Packets will be ACF-format; tournament format will be determined by the number of teams present, but will likely be either a standard or bracketed round-robin followed by ACF-format finals. Each team is guaranteed 10-11 games.

Payment:
All teams must pay on Saturday morning in one of two forms: cash, or a personal or institutional check made out to "University of Minnesota". Do not make checks out to any other person or entity besides "University of Minnesota". If you need an invoice ahead of time so that your sponsor can cut a check, let me know.

(thanks to George Berry for the announcement format, which I totally just ripped off)

So as you may have guessed, Carleton (due to having dropped out at the last minute) has been replaced by the Gautam Kandlikar Experience.

I don't know if this is a mistake, but I was looking at the stats and saw that not every team heard 200 tossups. Central and "Carleton" both had stats for their last game against each other but with 0 tossups. Just commenting on what may be an input error.
